I've heard rumors of the same thing when I was spending time on the Durango forum, but didn't want to mislead...I understand their customer base focuses on the 1/4 mile guys, but seems silly to not want to dig into the mustang/camaro sales a little delivering a better handling / lighter car. The viper is killer car & we know they can do it.

I think they faked it because the ZL1 did so good. They had to 'show' the viper is better by more than 2 or 3 seconds.

and don't forget, it is pretty much double the price.

Viper ACR has been around a smidge longer than the ZL1 1lE lol. It is the baddest sports car on the planet period. It holds 13 Track records…wait 14 now with the ring? As posted above this was a owner/fan funded run to take back the title as the Viper sunsets. FCA for whatever reason had no interest…probably because they've sold them all and stand to make no money off of it. The loss of this car is tragic. As you point out it's 130k but that is small potatoes compared the dominating performances it puts down time and time again. It has been bested only by million dollar hyper cars and many of those runs (cough…Lamborghini) are highly suspect. Certainly nothing that was built originally in the same model year ever came close. And like the article says they believe a high six run is in the cards. So do I. The greatest sports car in the history of the world is a Dodge……who would have thunk it. A monster naturally aspirated V10 with big Aero and sans all the tech geek stuff you see on the hypercard. The Viper is raw and I love it!

Honestly the Zl1 1LE ring timing is just coincidence. Still a hell of a run for the 1LE and like many of it's American friends it is a destroyer of exotics. What a time to be alive.

I think you touched on something that may be in the offing. Dodge closed a window on the Viper, only to bring something closer to earth in price and size like the Camaro/Mustang war. Finally, a 3 way war. I could see them bringing something like the Dodge Rogue.

I hope you're joking. They didn't have to "show" anything. The Viper is out of production for one. Plus the ACR has already laid claim to numerous track records. If I recall, this lap was funded by an independent group, so I don't even know if Dodge was involved. Give credit where it's due. Can't help but respect a man driving like that. Come on man!

Plus the Viper has been proven to be faster than the Z06 in many places so why wouldn't the ACR beat the ZL1 1LE? A guy from a YT channel set a 7:13 in a Z06 which puts it just past the ZL1 1LE and then the ACR is 10 seconds ahead of the Z06. Even without knowing the times that right where I would have expected the three of them to line up.

After the new Huracan so many people think these Ring times are being "faked"...

You just said it all and how true. What an amazing car the Viper has been. Cars dont usually scare me. I got to ride in one at an SRT event ,and all I can say is HOLY SH#T!!!.

Calling it the "greatest" is just silly. That's all relative, and it pales in comparison to a simple 991 GT3 as far as the driving experience/headroom/comfort at speed/etc.

We're on a performance car site and someone says " who cares about a car being fast"

i've been away from here for quite awhile, but wow. I've around performance cars all my life. Never once have I heard someone bragging about their headroom, and driving experience is a perception not fact.
