Definitely agree with you Obzen about the Gen5 as compared to the 6Gen!

Love the A8. Works great no complaints. I've owned numerous sticks in the past and due to issues with my knees I've had to get away from them and in all honesty I don't miss them at all.
10 yrs ago Auto's were still pretty bad. If we were having this conversation about the 4th gen then my answer would be different. If you are thinking about the A8 the I would get it. |

If you're a manual guy i feel you will enjoy the m6 over the auto. It's just more fun plain and simple. I test drove both last year. No offense to a8 guys but the manual is what I'd grab if I was in the market slower or not. Only autos I've really enjoyed were the zf8 in the hellcat and pdk. I'm sure the a10 is a riot as well but the m6 had a great shifter and clutch, my favorite parts of the 6gen.
To some the 6 gen is not an upgrade in every way. It is smaller on the inside if that's matters and less practical. Alot of ppl prefer the 5th gens lines a well. To each his own.

Driving an auto in these cars has got to get boring.

I have had numerous manual cars but chosen the A8 in this one. For a long time, automatics were an inferior choice in cars (even the Gen 5 w/ lower horsepower). I dont believe that to be so in this one. Stab it and go. These are all subjective opinions. When someone says the automatic is boring, its not based on a set of facts. Like others have said, drive both and pick the one you want. I have no regrets about the automatic in this car.

Wife and I never owned an auto in any car we owned until 7 years into our (29+ year) marriage, when we bought a tow vehicle. Years later bought an M6 ‘06 GTO off the lot and thoroughly enjoyed it for 4 years. Getting the 4-speed auto in that year model GTO just wasn’t appealing. Didn’t even consider it, to be honest.
Autos have come a looooong way since then. If you’re truly on the fence between the A8 and M6, you’ll be more than content with either choice. No regrets on the A8 here. The more important question may be whether or not you should you get this option or that option. Definitely consider the NPP exhaust option. Nothing sweeter sounding than an NA SB Chevy in its full glory. I’d personally recommend the MRC option as well. Best of luck in your decision! |

Decision made.
Thanks for he replies. I think I'm going to go with the M6. I've owned a stick since I learned to drive and can't see myself with out one, yet. I will test drive the M6 first before I purchase. I already found the car so I just need to get the right deal.

I just enjoy the manual too much to get an automatic. I'm tempted by the numbers but.. There's nothing like having total control and exactly when you need it too!
If you're going to be a bear, be a grizzly. Go with the manual. |
