USB Music strangeness
There have been some other threads about this but not covering quite what I am experiencing, I dont think.
I have a 32gb USB stick fully loaded with OGG format music files, which are supported according to the manual and basically work ok. When I first start the car, seems like the system is trying to reload everything on the flash drive and this process seems slow and flaky. Basically, if you try to immediately click on the USB source, it won't find it. Then as it is loading the files, it will let you get into the list of artists, for instance, but will boot you out of the list while it is still downloading from the USB stick. This seems to go on for a couple of minutes till it stabilizes. It's pretty annoying. Second issue, and I think this has been noticed by others, for some reason sometimes it remembers what you were listening to when you last shut down the car. Other times, it doesnt and will just start playing the first album in the list. And other times it won't play anything at all till you start it up. Anyone figure out what circumstances trigger each behavior? Is this all normal? Because it seems rather flaky and annoying. |

The symptoms you describe seem to suggest that the infotainment system is still indexing your USB drive, having problems accessing the USB file structure, or perhaps unable to process some files.
Through trial and error, I discovered that 32Gb seems to be the absolute limit of what the infotainment system can reasonably process, and even then it takes a very long time (sometimes weeks) to fully index all the files. Some files would play while others not, and sometimes I would select an album that shows up but would not play. All of my music is now indexed and works fine, but it took a very long time for everything to work. USB 3 drives will index faster than USB 2, some USB 2 drives take forever to index, and a few flash drives do not work well with the MyLink system period. You might check to see if there are any very large files and/or invalid file types. At one point, I inadvertently had some FLAC files which stalled the system occasionally. Leave the USB drive in for several weeks and put up with the wonky behavior. If it continues after, say, three weeks of use, then something else might be the problem. |

Well, sweet mother of all monkeys, I learned something new!
I had no idea 3's would perform faster on a 2 port! http://www.anandtech.com/show/4523/u...rive-roundup/6 |

Yah, my flash drive, I believe is a 3.0 I've had it in there for a while... I might try switching to MP3 on the off chance that they don't support OGG very well. It's unfortunate that 32gb is the limit since I was contemplating picking up a 64gb since I'd like to get some more albums available in the car. Had to be pretty selective to whittle it down to 32gb, crazy as that might sound.
