Here is my chat with Chevy today on the Silverado (one of the vehicles Flex is offered on):

Benjamin [4:38:31 PM] : Hello, Joe. Thank you for chatting with Chevrolet. My name is Ben. One moment while I read your previous chat.
Benjamin [4:40:26 PM] : Thank you for your interest in the Silverado! Let me see what I can find for you regarding these engines. We do not have any technical information about the sensors but I am happy to see what information I have on these!
joe robert [4:41:52 PM] : Right, not looking for exact tech info on the sensor, but does the fuel delivery system or gaskets get changed out or will every Silverado be built for E85 and then include the necessary flex fuel sensor and tune to run it?
Benjamin [4:44:27 PM] : I don't have information on if the gaskets are changed out or what exactly is changed. This is an option that is added to the L83 engine. So it is possible to get the L83 engine without but I just see the option itself makes the engine E85 capable.
joe robert [4:44:52 PM] : What is the price difference, and is there a site or person I could contact?
Benjamin [4:46:40 PM] : I see that the E85 option has an MSRP of $100. Keep in mind that all prices provided represent the current Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price and do not include tax or dealer fees.
joe robert [4:46:58 PM] : Thank you so much! Perfect!
Benjamin [4:47:19 PM] : You're welcome! You will want to speak with your local dealership about any technical information on this engine though.

I'll talk with my friends at my dealer and find out if the gaskets are any different when ordering parts for the L83. To be honest, it is most likely the exact same vehicle with the flex fuel sensor and tune unlocked for purpose of cost. How else could they only charge $100 for the option?

My tuner mentioned that the flex fuel tables were already in the Camaro's computer. I haven't had one issue since running nothing but E85 for 7 months now and the car sits during half of that time.

Wonder what it takes to get on base as a non-retiree (6 years honorable)? Just go to the support center and show a DD214 and get a pass? I see that they are looking into tax free for all vets at the commissary and then I can get gas there too.
My father used to get us on base bit this was before 9/11 and all he had to do was go through a security check at gate and say he was going to play basketball with friends. I don't know if this will still work l, but I'm active duty now so I have no problems.

Stock I was around 24-28 average most tanks with plenty of mix of highway/city/spirited driving.

Stock + E85 tune I was probably 20-26. I just had to watch it a little more if I wanted to save gas.

Now, Longtubes + X pipe + E85 and DOD/AFM/4cyl/whatever it's called now turned off, I'm getting 16-21. I just really like the sound of my car now, so I'm not exactly taking it easy on the loud pedal lol.

Since I put the E85 tune on it, I have yet to put any 93 back in the car. E85 DD since my beater got slammed in to.

No E85 on my base. I went to every gas station yesterday and today. Had to make the normal 80 mile round trip to get some more. I got 22.5mpg over the last 50 or so miles on it. Basically 50/50 highway and city.

So I have been using it lately, it will get me to and from work for about 25 bucks a week. Remember that if mpg is your worry, then all you need to do is run 93 until you want to go fast then throw some e85 in the tank. There is no need to run a mixture of 93 and e85, just fill up with what you want and go, so it would affect your mpg only if you wanted it too.
Man this must be nice! No base out here in Socal has E85. But honestly these cars to me should come from the factory with the capability to run flex fuel. My car responds and runs so much better then stock. To me it was worth it. Sure my gas mileage suffered a little but honestly if u worry about gas mileage then why buy a V8
