2019 Z28, Reality??
http://www.carscoops.com/2017/02/201...se-700-hp.html
Car&Driver claims that the new Z/28, potentially arriving for the 2019 model year, will go one step beyond the ZL1 1LE and could feature a naturally-aspirated V8 engine delivering a dizzying 700 hp.

I doubt it, they tried to do a high HP N/A engine for the Z06 and couldn't do it. I don't see them being able to do it now for Camaro.
Also if it went to more extremes than the ZL1 1LE, I would imagine that would push the price into the 80K+ range. I don't see a market for a Camaro priced that high. Now if they slot a Z/28 between SS 1LE and regular ZL1 then I can see it happening |

There have been rumors of a new LT5 DOHC V8 for a while. At Camaro Fest Al O said the Z/28 nameplate would require a NA motor. Maybe...

A car of this price is not getting a unique 700hp NA engine.. I just can't see that.

Guess we'll just have to see.. The ZL1 1LE is already a monster.. If you strip it down too much and go with a large high rev NA motor, you're going to end up with another car that's just going to fail and sit on lots for years until people come 30K off the price.. Chevy found the hard way with Gen5 Z/28 there just aren't that many buyers of the things people claim to want.. Dodge found out the hard way as well when they threw all the new stuff in to a GenV Viper and it sat, and sat and sat, because they priced it out of the market segment of their common buyers.
There simply aren't enough buyers in the market that will buy up a horribly striped out new Camaro for the money GM will want for it, to make up for the $$$ spent making the thing.. It would be difficult to hit the price point, and make it perform high enough above a ZL1 1LE in NA form to make it worth anything and NOT have a horrible GGT on it. They've already stated that the ZL1 1LE skipped CCBs because the performance just wasn't there for the added cost. But, if it didn't sit above a ZL1 1LE, then I don't know where it would sit... There's too many 1LE options for all three trims for a Z/28 and how many road course favoring models do you really need in one line? |

The ZL1 1LE leaves a lot on the table in the weight department. They could strip out all the creature comfort items and make it more of a hardcore track car, similar to the last Z/28.

When we where at CF7, 2018 CTF ZR1 where being made, they will have a New 4 valves per and its back to the old LT5 for the name plate, the LT6 is going in the 2019 mid Engine corvette and yes it is a twin turbo car, the new LT7 is for the Z/28, now i have heard its going to be a large displacement motor.
I have no inside info, this is from what i hear on the streets. |

Weight is something very hard to substitute at the track even with the stock 1LE power I definitely feel like the car could be a bit more lighter and nimble.

The Camaro engines are whatever the Corvette gets. So, what's under the hood of this thing..?

The LT5 will likely be the 6.2 with the new 2.65 blower. At least that's my best guess. Unfortunately, Corvette dictates the V8s. GM just doesn't care otherwise. Oh
