Exhaust Popping

Is it normal for our exhaust pipes to emit popping sounds during idle or when the engine is shut off?

That is just the sheet metal of the mufflers cooling off.

Mine pops and crackles so sweetly when the engine turns over and ignites. Something my LT1 did not do.

I've pulled the fuse on the dual exhaust so that i can experience the wonderful snap, crackle, pop ALL the time..lifting off the throttle in 1st gear is a joy!

I couldn't tell you what it is exactly, but I'm sure it's normal. I have heard the same on my car. It's like a metallic ping/pop every so often when I shut the car down after a drive. I have heard it on other cars as well so I'm sure it's fine.

Have you had a CEL pop up as a result?

I have seen conflicting info on this otherwise I would have pulled mine.

it is just the metal popping and clicking after the engine is shut off. Rotors do it too at the road course after a session.

I pulled mine on my 16SS and on a 1000 mile drive threw a CEL. I am going to try again with my ZL1. We shall see.
