Meh, I have no problem with losing the V8 so long as the performance stays linear or increases, and range doesn't decrease. It'll happen at some point. I love the sound of a V8 but it's not a necessity. And it'd take something pretty spectacular from Ford or Dodge to get me into one those products. Not a fan of either post '70.

The HP is there matching the old small block engines, but the V6 still can't touch the torque they put out. But they make up for it is some cases with modern transmissions and electronic fuel delivery adding to the efficiency of mileage and putting the power to the ground.

It's about performance and making power yourself for far less than expensive pretentious cars.

The engine in the car doesn't matter, as long as the buyer can make it go faster than cars that cost more and look better doing it. That's a pony car. Thats all that really matters to keep the Camaro honest
Nope, its also about power delivery, torque, sound. Who wants a muscle car that sounds like a buzz saw?

Also speaking of "COOL FACTOR" how is that AUTOMATIC treating you bro?
Those 4 bangers will wear out faster if you boost them way up and drive them hard on a regular basis.

With the V6 over 300 HP and the 4 Cylinder close behind, how ,much horsepower is reasonable in an internal combustion engine. I know you can modify the V8 to get 1000 HP or more. Most people won't do this. Few will modify the engine period.

If they made an all electric Camaro I would be first in line. Electric cars have come a long way. Look on youtube for the Tesla against the Challenger, wow.

Porsche is coming out with a 600 HP electric, would kick any V8's butt.

http://www.businessinsider.com/porsc...0-horsepower-1

Electric cars have maximum horsepower at 0 rpm's, not like an internal combustion engine. The performance of an electric is now at or better than internal combustion. The storage needs to increase, it is in the 300 km range now, sure it will be in excess of 400 km in a year.

If I could get the performance of the V8 (450 HP) and get 500 km to a charge, I am in. Charge would cost a fraction of the premium gas, especially at night. Even less if you put some solar panels on the roof!!!!
It will probably feel like you are sliding down the highway on you living room sofa in total quiet. Its like comparing a twin engine Diesel freight train to an electric subway train. Which one is more exciting and engaging?

Me for one will drive whatever brand still offers V8's in the future be it Chevy, Ford or Dodge.
Sound. It's all about sound. I sold my highly modified, probably as fast '15 GTI to get my '17 SS. Primary reasons: styling but more importantly sound. NOTHING (except possibly Audi's raucous, growling turbo 5 pot) sounds as good as a V8.

Your expensive V8 habit can be replaced with a little talent and your mouth.

You'll learn to love the sound of current and the ringing of capacitors and the sound of tire screeching.

so if someone isn't driving a camaro without a v8 they're driving what?

a truck?

walking?
because i'm assuming if the camaro had no v8 the mustang wouldn't either.

I will stick with whatever brand continues to offer RWD, V8, and a manual trans. The only non V8 I'd consider (off the top of my head) that's under six figures is an ATS V and that would only be if I felt I absolutely needed a sedan. M3/M4 would be one as well if they didn't sound like complete crap.
