No more V8's
This is just a question to all who care about V8's.
Who will keep driving the Camaro and be brand and model loyal when and if they ever stop building the Camaro's with the V8 motors and your left with Hybrid, 4 and 6 cylinder? Me for one will drive whatever brand still offers V8's in the future be it Chevy, Ford or Dodge. |

driving a 6 cylinder camaro right now,its a great car.probably more horsepower than many of the original ponycars with v-8s

Ford killed V6 in Mustangs, I assume Chevy will do it as well in Camaros. There is a talk of Hybrid Mustang in 2020 with power comparable to V8 (instant torque from electric motor and probably turbocharged 4 cylinder). V8s are a dying breed due to new emission standards and global manufacturer effort. In example, France is planning to ban gasoline and diesel engines by 2040.

I don't want a battery powered (battery-assisted) car as at some point that expensive ass battery is going to wear out and be too expensive to replace. If those battery systems become more affordable, I wouldn't have an issue with a powerful hybrid assuming it would have similar performance.

This discussion has been going on since the original emission laws went into place in the 1970s. Talking about hypotheticals now won't get us any closer to reality than it did back then.
Laws change, but technology changes to fulfill those requirements. If you asked somebody back in the peak of the 80's malaise era if you'd ever be able to buy a 450HP Camaro from the factory, they would probably very confidently say "no" even though that ended up being the case. V8s will always exist for hobbyists if nothing else. And like in the 80's, even if factory options are one day limited, you can do an engine swap. You'll be about 10x slower than even the cheapest hybrid electric car on the road, but you'll have your V8 for the noise and bragging rights.

Having a hard on for cylinders is stupid.
It's about performance and making power yourself for far less than expensive pretentious cars. The engine in the car doesn't matter, as long as the buyer can make it go faster than cars that cost more and look better doing it. That's a pony car. Thats all that really matters to keep the Camaro honest |

V8's will probably be gone from all but the most volume limited car models within 7-8 years at current MY2025 GHG regulations. You will most likely still find some available in trucks but that will depend on the footprint size. You'll probably see more 6's with turbos for the higher volume models. Unlike the 1980's, the regulations vs. tech available for ICE (internal combustion engines) is not in favor of ICE. We are reaching cost vs. feasibility as well as chasing hundredths for Co2 reductions as all the low hanging fruit has been done.
Personally, I won't buy an electric car or hybrid until the used market for ICE dries up and I bought a muscle car witha V8 because they won't be around unless a dramatic shift in geopolitical attitudes and regulations occurs with climate change and Co2 impact. Very unlikely globally.

I've been interested in speed & acceleration for 60 years; don't care if it comes from a V8, V-whatever, batteries, or mice on a treadmill.
What counts: The rush when I drop the hammer! ![]() PS: Though I will admit I'd miss the sound of the exhaust on a V8 |

At 5800$ a year in road tax, close to 6000$ one time registration fee and 6.5$ a gallon for a V8, I'm very thankful Chevy makes the 2 liter turbo. I haven't missed my 2014 RAM for a second (although it's not a comparable type of transportation). Luckily my 42 year old Vette only owes 200$ yearly to the state so it makes up for the lack of V8 sounds

Cylinder layout means next to nothing to me. It's all about affordability, performance, and reliability. The packaging is not important. The Q50 hybrid that I returned off of lease prior to getting my Camaro offered great acceleration and was fun to drive

As long as I live I will keep my V8. Sooner or later there will be no V8 anymore in Europe.
