I absolutely love Pandora when hooked up with my phone. Or as others have stated, XM radio. My 5th Gen had a cd player and the sound was subpar, but then again, I'm not looking for a, BMW type opulence, I'm looking for a pony car that has a strong V-8 that has the music coming from under the hood or out the rear.

What format are the files in? If you don't know how to check, just right click on one of the songs, select properties, and then read what "Type of file:" says. With that information I can better help you. There are plenty of programs out there to convert from one format to the other, but it's hard to recommend one without first knowing what format we need to convert from. iTunes does a good job, but is a bit bloated and may be more complicated than what is necessary for you (I've never liked it personally).

Here are some programs that could work for you:

FreeRIP
Free Audio Converter
CDex

And here is another that solves the USB Hassle problem. But you can still choke the Camaro with 64 GB USB of music. Smaller the better and faster.

CarPLaylist

OP Ditch the CDs, nothing but a hassle. Simplify your life.

Hey George,

I have quite a bit of experience in the tech side, with both Windows and Mac. If you need any help, I'd be happy to help you work out the formatting issue. Cannot locate the file generally means that the referenced location didn't list the file. The most common cause of that is the operating system creating a link to a file rather than copying the file to the new location. New tech can definitely be a pain, but once you get the hang of it, the new features usually beat out the old. CD's have very limited space, but a hard drive can hold an archive. And streaming services like Pandora or Spotify let you carry a constantly updating archive with you, that someone else has to do all the work to manage.

If you want, I can help you with the computer issues over screen sharing apps like TeamViewer, GoTo, or Bomgar. Just send me a message, and i'll be happy to help out.

This guys doesn't even know how to multi-quote on a forum. It's only been around for 15 years or so. Sorry that technology has advanced and become far easier to use for the rest of us that aren't afraid to learn new things. Also, your owners manual gives you the details on how to format the USB drive if you want to put music on it and play in it your car. DO THEY EVEN MAKE CD's ANYMORE?

By the way I am a nerd and I make a good living being one. I enjoy getting in my Camaro, having the phone connect to my radio via Bluetooth automatically, and playing music without ever having to do anything. I never knew doing nothing was so hard.

Just bought my wife a Nissan Rogue (it is what she wanted). It has a CD player (along with all the other Bluetooth and USB goodies). Bose sound system with 7 speakers plus 2 subs. Something for everyone.

I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

Guys, Repeat after me.... cd's are 30+year old technology.... artist achievement is measured in downloads not record sales... music is not a product, music is a service

Welcome to the future

I haven't even built a computer with optical drives in over a decade. Are these people clinging to cds also demanding the return of combo vhs/dvd players for their home?

All your music should have been ripped from your cds 10-15 years ago at least.

You then push all that music to google music and you're golden. Then it doesn't matter what codec you happen to like to store your music in.

some people just want to complain about something and will create their own roadblocks to do so i guess.

I just keep a lightning cable plugged in to one of the usb ports. When I get in the car, I plug the phone in to the other end and place it in the cupholder.

This solution was around $20.

I personally couldn't care less about a CD drive. If anything I won't buy a device with an optical drive because it means that they are living the past to me.

My car has Apple carplay. It's all I need!

Uses data? Yeah, no biggie.

It would be hilarious to see someone try to get a CD case while driving this car.
