Custom Exhaust Question

Midpipe: FlowMaster 81083
Muffler : FlowMaster 8430152
Tip/Valve : Stock NPP (cut/weld)

So I got this idea from @cmeJATT only he has a SS and has the secondary cats deleted, will this same exhaust parts work on the RS? Im not going to go second cat delete, anyone think there will be drone? Comments, complaints, concerns always appreciated!

I'm also wondering if we even need the midpipe/ keep stock mid pipe and what's the advantage/ disadvantage of having it aswell.

Anything that is made for the SS will mount up on the RS all the hang points are the same the difference comes up where the cats come in.. The SS the primary and secondary cats are right next to eachother where on the v6 the secondary cats are down further so with an exhaust like the MBPR cat back you will be deleting the secondary cats unless you have a shop keep them in.

There are other variables if you have NPP and weather or not you want to keep AFM.. If you are just piecing items into your exhaust like the flowmaster stuff any standard muffler shop should be able to do this work for you.

In your opinion would it be worth keeping the NPP function if I was to just mount the flow master muffler w/ the welded on valves and since I live in Cali not get the mid pipe which would have them deleteing the secondary cats, also would there be any benefit to this versus the stock system via sound change, because I don't want the v6 to have a ricer tone or drone tone. Loved the input.

If you are considering a Flowmaster setup for your car we recommend giving us a call at 707-544-4761. That way we can get a little more information about your Camaro and help find the right set up for you.

Hey Bud - I'm not sure about the mid pipe but the mufflers will work... those are just custom fab to the car.

here is the part number for Borla i found online for you .. double check with flowmaster if same mid pipe but i doubt it ..

Do you use the NPP functionality ? That would be the best question to ask the valves come after the exhaust so I don't see why you couldn't keep them and go with the flowmaster mufflers. Pretty much any good shop will have a mandrel bender and the ability to cut what you need. If you don't use the NPP or keep it open then your options come down to an exhaust that will still work with the AFM valves. I know there is also a way to ground them out so the computer thinks they are working even if they are not. You will still get V4 mode of course.

There are some people that have posted YouTube videos of just doing some flowmaster 44s I believe.

I will have a full review of the system I have on YouTube shortly 12 hour work days have been killing me!

If you are going to piece together the exhaust anyways honestly your best bet would be get friendly with a shop.. get the mufflers see if you like it.. If you want more get rid of the stock resonator in the middle and go with a x pipe - if you want more get rid of secondary cats if that creates too much drone add some j pipes...

This is the very reason I just went right with the MBRP 3" race series because it deletes the secondary cats removes everything else but gives you an x pipe and j pipes.. I can add stuff back in I actually bought some carven TR mufflers/resonators fully expecting to hate the sound.. but im in love so I have them sitting on my floor I will put them in if I decide I get tired of how loud it is. Drone is not an issue though its just insane when you open it up.

Now you understand how companies like Borla and magnaflow make so much money on full setups that work with stock systems like NPP and AFM.... You get good sound and dont have to think about anything else.

Honestly I like the fact that of the NPP functionality. It's preference of course, but at the same time it's cool to me to quiet the exhaust note down when you don't want that full sound all the time. Besides that I got the NPP function minus well use it, I could always turn it off I pressume.
