Yes, just like he said above. But it does help if you release the sound tube retaining clips around the joint to get more clearance to the retaining ring around the connection.

Okay. I was squeezing the top and bottom of that clamp while trying to pull it apart. I will try it the way you 2 guys said to. Thanks RXtacy and NBR IPD!!

The manual transmission cars do not have this mode switching, which is why I made the post in the 1LE thread area, not the LT1 area.
I have pulled mine last week or so and its on a A8 2SS. I don't hear any unwanted noises in the cabin including the AFM as it sounds the same as before which isn't bothersome IMO. Thank you again for letting us know about this simple mod, i personally like the extra sounds coming in from the intake/engine ect. Manual or not its just as good for M6 as it is for the A8.

If u like more exhaust notes u can fold the seat down too.
Comes with more road noise. But cruising around town, i have been known to fold it down even when i am not carrying something that requires it to be down. I always grow tired of it. But its cool sometimes.

It's the internal manually operated npp valve...

(I do this too )

Did this easy mod tonight. Definite sound improvement at WOT.

Hi all,
OK I tried this mod and for me it was a bit too loud on the intake side. I had already tried the sound tube delete mod as well. When I deleted it, I found it way too quiet in the cabin. I've now reconnected the sound tube, with the foam insert back in - just like GM/Chevy designed it. With the Rotofab intake and Borla Atak, it sounds right to me, the right combo of intake and exhaust.

I did this today and the check engine light went on throwing 4 dif P300 codes!

Haha kidding ..

But yeah couldn't really hear the extra noise and I have the GM intake. But, I think it's largely due to my aftermarket exhaust. Revs seem slight louder.. I'll leave the foam off..

To each his own, but for me this sound tube is just fake BS crap and has no place in a car like this. It's a piece of film that passively vibrates and creates fake noise. It in no way amplifies or channels real noise. It's a total scam, it's insulting and it's worthless. It's not real noise. This is designed for the pedestrian driver. What a load of sh!t. Same for the BMW that channels electronically manufactured noise through the speakers because their real engine noise sucks.

Yeah but I love this car.

It is in fact acoustically amplified intake/engine noise, not "just fake BS crap". Sure its not quite as natural as a CAI with sound tube delete but other than right at tip in I think it sounds pretty great. Definitely way better than the fake sounds some automakers pipe through the speakers. To each their own

I concur. I have tried all three ways now - sound tube delete, pulling foam mod version, and with sound tube stock version. I bought the Rotofab intake w/ the sound tube when it first came out, and I've had Borla Atak and secondary cat delete done since. I didn't realize till I did the delete how much I actually liked the sound w/ the tube and how quiet the cabin was without it. It sounds great to my ears. The whole notion of hating on the sound tube strikes me funny, as we all get mods like an exhaust etc for more noise and sound.

Does this change the tone though? Tried this on my Coyote Mustang and it gave it a "tinny" sound...

To me it just amplifies what is already there. Just great V8 induction noise. I removed the foam last week and I like it so far. Nice that's it's so easy to mess with. Could even play with the size of the foam to tune it to your liking.
