A8 tranny and crank bolt
Would like to install a procharger myself but after reading through the instructions, it seems like the hardest part is keeping the flywheel fixed while unbolting the crank bolt. I will be doing the install by myself and would like some advice on how to securely keep the flywheel from spinning. Any other headaches I should be aware of? My local shop quoted me $7300 for the basic procharger kit plus install and tune. Is this an average price?

I wouldn't say that's an average price at all. Another shop, that's a regular on here, quoted me at about $10k, if there wasn't any hiccups.

The problem isn't getting the bolt off (I used a 1/2 impact) Off. Putting it on and tightening it is the problem, Well not a problem. Just takes another set of hands.

What did the other have to do exactly while you were tightening it? Do you think there is a way for me to "wedge" the flywheel somehow for me to do it alone?

Everyone states to do torque, to make "SURE" the bolt doesn't loosen up, and make "SURE" you don't tear the threads out of the crankshaft. I did it ALL with my IR 1/2 impact, on a A8. (let the flame begin) 30 year pro mechanic, somethings are over kill. Most 1/2 air impact will never reach the torque spec from GM. With red loctite, it doesn't matter. I have built hundreds of motor (engines)...NEVER had a crank hub blow off, even on the drag strip...lol. With a good impact, don't stand on it, burp, burp. LET THE FLAMING BEGAIN....lol |

How long did it take you guys to install it? I'm thinking one full day? I've swapped motors, installed many turbo kits on the four bangers back in the days, but now I'm a bit older and rusty (less confident).
Also I have a ported TB/IM with just a catback. Will I be fine with the canned tune? |

Getting that bolt off was the hardest part for me. It took the longest out of any of the other steps. Mine was on there very tight, took 3 guys to do it(all big guys too) with a breaker bar. Call some friends, offer them some beer and put them to work. The rest of the install was a breeze and I'm not a master mechanic, far from it. Just follow the instructions one step at a time and it's easy!

Did mine this weekend. Was kind of a pain to get the screwdriver positioned correctly so that it wouldn't fall out. Once you figure it out its simple. Just have to push it in there and make sure its good and tight. I found that it worked when I pushed the screwdriver against the flywheel and slightly tilted toward the back of the car. Used a long breaker bar with a jack handle over it and added pressure slowly.
