I'd guess the hill start assist issue stems from the brake simply being slow to respond. I know setting and unsettling the parking brake seems to take a lot longer than I'd expect. I've found that if I let off of the brake and just wait about a second before trying to take off, I can work around the suboptimal hill start assist. (Perhaps a ratcheting type mechanism to allow the car to move forward freely would work better than a traditional brake for hill start assist?) |

I have no idea why there is an issue after hill assist kicks in. After applying throttle and the hill assist releases and the car fails to accelerate, I will push in the clutch to increase RPM. The car will start to roll back slightly, so I know hill assist braking is no longer in play. there is still a distinct reduction in power. I wonder if there is an algorithm built into the system to keep you from over accelerating and spinning the tires on a hill start? Will be interesting to see if the issue exist in sport and track mode. |

I have owned multiple M6 GM cars recently. This new ZL1 is the flakiest thing to try and take off in, that I have ever tried. I only have 550 miles on mine and it revs the engine all over, the place when you try to engage 1st gear on take off. And it seemingly does it on its own. I havent stalled it yet, but it sounds as if it going to die constantly when engaging the clutch. The car is new and still breaking in.

I browsed the forums a little bit and so far I've found several '17 ZL1 owners who have expressed concerns similar to what's being described in this thread.
1. travislambert 2. Shorty45 3. popsmk 4. FringBirdAloha 5. Zach495 6. Infern0 7. Evolvedx27 8. bobby35ny 9. GarnetRedJuan (A10) 10. rasracin 11. Stoner 12. sengli 13. IKILLEDSUPERMAN_ZL1 14. Getinthur 15. cwebster 16. mlee (A10) 17. Lashu74 18. 17ZL1Camaro 19. Tara Martin 20. Repman If your username isn't listed and you have experienced issues with unexpected timing pulls/bogging with the '17 ZL1 that go beyond what you'd consider normal, please post your experience/observations and I'll get your name added. I plan to show this list to the Chevrolet reps at Camaro Fest to help give some credence to the issue. Hopefully this will be useful for them in prioritizing the investigation into the problem. (And of course, if I've somehow misunderstood your post(s) and you'd like your username removed, I'd be happy to do that as well.) Last edited by travislambert; 07-05-2017 at 01:31 PM. |

I never noticed it on my '16 SS when I had it. Of course, I only drove it a few times before I did the engine swap and tune.
After the LT4 swap and tune I certainly didn't notice an issue. The SS was much easier to accomplish a smooth take off from a stop, and I'm pretty sure it would out 60' the ZL1 on an aggressive start too. Of course traction was a bigger challenge on the SS, but at least it didn't nose dive. Also, the behavior of the SS with the 1LE package may be all together different. I have no experience with this configuration. |
