Can i get the older molder for less cost then? I dont track the car so having the latest tire is not necessary. Is it just pilot sport 1-2-3-4? (numerical order)? With 4 being the newest.

No, and no. The Pilot Super Sport has been more expensive than the Pilot Sport 4S from what I have seen. The Pilot Sport 4S is a completely new tire, although it is based on the previous Pilot Super Sport. The PS4S is expected to be an all around improvement.

I went ahead and purchased the tires in stock sizes. I have been debating on new wheels & larger tires, or just sticking with stock size. There isn't a wheel set that I love for spending so much cash right now, so I decided the new tires alone will be enough of an improvement in ride comfort and handling for every day. I'm expecting delivery to take 2 weeks. Here is a breakdown of what I paid.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
  • 245/40R20 $301.99 ea
  • 275/35R20 $305.99 ea
  • Mount/Balance $14 ea
  • Tire Displosal $1 ea
  • Michelin Coupon -$70
  • Total Installed -- $1205.96 + tax

I am still undecided on what I want to do in the Winter. I did not drive the Camaro last Winter because I had a lease vehicle. The lease is now over. I have three choices and I change my mind on which one I want to do every few days. I will probably end up going with option 1 this season, but I like the idea of having an interesting beater car that I can use as another project. http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=492405 I've had my eye on a first gen Cadillac SRX (I think the best option), Nissan Pathfinder or XTerra, Lexus RX330/350, or some other small-ish SUV.
  1. Buy 18" wheels and snow tires as a set from Tirerack (< $1500)
  2. Buy a Craigslist beater for Winter and maybe put snow tires on it ($3,000-7000)
  3. Put 20" Winter tires on the stock rims, in Spring get a new set of wheels/tires for Summer ($1300-1500)

I'm going to have to check out what they want for the 285/35R19. That's a good price for the 20's

TireRack prices fluctuate almost daily. My observation after tracking prices for the last few weeks, I think you can count on $20-30 cheaper per tire compared to Tire Rack's advertised price. You will save on shipping as well, but of course that may be offset by paying sales tax.

I got the "Michelin - Pilot Sport A/S 3+" from costco. What pressure should i be running them at? I'm noticing my car wobbles a bit more than stock tires. Definitely squeals as well. Also, a/s= All season?

Got my Michelin PS4S installed today in stock size. WOW! This is a major change from the stock run flats. I am so glad I got rid of them. I am going to break-in the tires, so I do not know their level of high-performance yet.

I can comment on their amazing daily drive comfort and quietness, however!! Immediately when I pulled out of the parking spot I noticed that the steering setting in Tour is now wonderfully smooth and effortless. It feels like a Lexus LS460. This is a VERY good thing for me. You're probably asking why would it make a difference if the steering is electric? The electric steering works with a position sensor feedback loop. I don't know the exact method GM is using on the Alpha platform, but HERE is an article that explains one method. The abstract will give you an idea of what is happening.

Secondly, the road noise is reduced substantially and ride comfort is just fantastic. I am going to fall in love with daily driving my Camaro all over again. In all suspension modes with MRC, I am perfectly comfortable driving on the crappy Michigan roads that I encountered today. I drive a lot, so I expect to be completed with my break-in by the end of next week and I will have driven several awful roads. I'll have a complete understanding of how these tires will react in a variety of situations.

Also, what pressure should these tires be run at? The stock run flats are 35-37PSI but they were steel side walls. Do we need to run a different pressure in the non run-flat tire?

Another update. I got a call this morning from Costco and found out they put the wrong size front tires on. I was mostly concerned with them damaging my wheels so when I did an inspection I never actually read the sidewall markings. I did think they looked a bit shallow, though. They put 245/35R20 on the first time so I took it back today and they put on the correct 245/40R20.

I want to say the super light steering feel is now gone. I'm not sure if this is all in my head or not. I haven't driven it enough to be sure, but I did immediately think that the steering wasn't feeling as light as I left the parking lot.

I'm not too upset. Costco is very close to my office. It could have been much worse if the car had fallen off their lift or something really serious. Luckily they contacted me and got it fixed pretty quickly. I likely would not have noticed for awhile.
