Hi, I just started on a Magnuson install on my 2016 SS. I can't seem to have any luck getting the crank bolt loose. I've tried a breaker bar and an impact wrench with no luck. I tried a heat gun (15 - 20 seconds) as well but didn't make a difference. Can you tell me what tools you used and how you got the bolt off?

With the breaker bar method, has anyone tried putting a flat head screwdriving between the torque converter bolt boss and the bellhousing? Or am I missing a much easier way to keep the pulley from rotating? Thanks.

Pry bar or large screw driver between the teeth on the flywheel, heat gun 20 sec, wait 10 sec, heat gun 20 sec. Breaks loose. Be carful with the heat as there is a lot of rubber on the harmonic balancer.

I use a 36" chain wrench to hold them and 3/4" breaker bar with 24mm socket.3 jaw puller to get them off then a 8" length of 3/8" rod to press new one on. Heated balancer center bore up to 300f and coated with oil. Will slip right on

Toughest part of the install, no matter what blower your using. Hope you get it done. You'll love the rest of the install and lots of power when your done.

There is an inspection plate on the A8 that just pops off. Wedge a screwdriver up there by the convertor bolts. It worked for me. I used a breaker bar and pushed on it with my foot and body weight.

Thanks everyone. Got the bolt and pulley out using the screw driver and breaker bar method.

Now onto getting the new pulley in and the rest if the install.

Mine has been pulled since I've owned it and haven't had any problems in that 6000 to 6500 range as he did.
What issues are you talking about? Reason i ask is I just collapsed the #7 intake lifter. GM wouldn't cover it... Neither would magnuson. Come to find out there's a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for AFM (Active Fuel Management) lifters from GM. I fixed the issue myself. If it happens again I will install the AFM delete plate, cam it with LS7 lifters... Beware even cars with an M6 have AFM lifters on cylinders 1,4,6,7. Right before my lifter collapsed it felt like it was misfiring right up around 6k rpm

I have my AFM turned off and haven't had an issue yet. Hopefully I won't but if I do I'll do the same as you.

Do you know what issues they were experiencing without the fuse pulled?

Wow sorry to hear about this. I just finished my Magnuson install and reading something like this doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. Does driving style have any imact here or is this lifter problem just an issue waiting to happen any time?

It was closing up on the dyno and loosing power above 6k. I think he may have change the axle back. I have not encountered that problem at all. Don't know why his was doing that. His was a manual and mine was an A8. Makes no since.

I need to put mine on a dyno and find out what's going on... Mine has been fine most time at high rpm. My lifter must've been starved for oil. It was collapsed .150" so quite a bit!

I know it’s almost 1 year old thread but I start gathering information concerning SC. I am planning to install it by my self as well. Do I need any special tools? I read something about a 3 jaw puller but apparently it will work with a screw driver and breaker.
And the most important question @laynlo15 from where do I get one.

For the pulley I used a propane torch and a 650 ft - lbs, Kobalt lithion-ion impact wrench, 30 seconds torch, 5 seconds impact, 10 seconds torch, 5 seconds impact and it came off. Before that I did the huge breaker bar 3/4 drive and the car in 6th gear. Then I did the 650 ft -lbs Earthquake impact and the bolt just laughed.
