I park all my cars way out, and at the high point of the parking lot so that shopping carts will always roll AWAY.

When I say way out, I mean WAY out. Like at least 15 spaces away from the nearest car, and always in an end spot tucked as far away from the next space as possible. I've seldom met a lot where I can't find a safe space, it just means more walking.

We bought this car to drive, so I don't go in for any of this "I don't park in lots" or "I never let it out of my sight" ridiculousness, however if I'm running to the store for milk, I'll either take a kid with me so that they can run in while I wait in the car, or I'll be prepared for the walk to and from the car to take just as long as the actual time inside the store.

I do the exact same thing. The problem is if there is a ding or scratch, the offender is usually long gone by that time.

I would say some of these dings and scratches are not all accidents. A lot of jealous people around driving their mini vans and rust buckets!

I definitely agree with this. I had my Camaro for about a year now and it has been egged and dinged on the driver's side door. It is my only car and daily driver, so I expect a few battle scars. However, I'm still not too thrilled about it

Man that sucks, same thing happened with my 2010 LT camaro. I've since learned to park in the back of the lot away from everyone.

I'm having a hard time trying to picture what happened with the filing cabinet. I'm thinking of some overly complicated Rube Goldberg machine where a chain of events was triggered.

Do you mind uploading any pics? Let us compliment your car despite its battle scars.

I'm curious as to how the filing cabinet fell on it. Jealous coworker?

This seems ridiculous to me, how could you have that many issues if your being careful? Like others have said I park always away from others and always in a spot where someone can only get on one side, and if I go somewhere and the lot is just a nightmare, guess what, I leave, not worth the hassle or damage potential. There are parts of town I would also never go as well, crap areas, a new nice car is just too much for some low lifes to take, I think they go out of there way to take something away from its owner. Just my two cents :-)

I swear this car is a magnet for chaos. I park far away to the point my passengers yell that they need a guide and a mountain goat to find the store. Yet still there's some dumpy car that has to park right next to me! I also had our line service guy knock over a 2x4 with the golf cart into the hood of my car 2 weeks ago. That was just a minor hood chip with no dent.

As for the story, I was parked by the rear open door at work. We had the big front hanger door open so the wind was blowing through. They set an old crappy filing cabinet in the door way so the wind gusted through the hanger and blew it over. Anywho, here's some battle damage.

Rear shopping cart. These are almost the width of a penny deep.

And the hood.

It always sucks when the rest of the car is shiny and mint. No swirls marks even. And then blamo, sudden dents that go down to the metal. :(

If you haven't you may need to put something, anything, in those dents just to prevent rust. At least for the hood, which is metal.

Would the filing cabinet be covered under comprehensive as a "missile" (object in flight)?

I live 3 miles from Walmart. When I go I never park in the lot or anywhere near. I just drive to entrance of my development and park which 200 yards from my house then I just walk the 3 miles to Walmart. That way I know my car is safe from damage.
