I have a wrangler and alot of people paint them black. They use high temp paint that i think is good for grills etc. You should be able find it at any home depot.

Yup, nothing more needed than can of rustoleum bar-b-que satin or flat spray can....every new car I get has had the under rear sprayed, esp the camaros with their ugly suitcase muffler. Don't overthink it, wipe everything down with alcohol and then spray it .

Check out my thread on the topic. It has pics and details:
http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449719 Make sure to read through to the second page to get a photo of the paint I used as well as a bonus photo showing where I painted the inside of the muffler tips with the same paint. As Glen e said - don't overthink it - just do it. Mine has been painted for over a year now and looks just as good as the day I first did it.

Did you paint it on the car and how did you paint inside the tips without any over spray

Quote:
For the muffler tips I cut the toe end off a pair of old gym socks and slid the toe end first over the tip until the tight elastic top covered all the exterior of the tip - leaving only the interior uncovered. Then I spray painted the inside of the tips. I had just a tiny bit of overspray. I used a Q-tip dipped in solvent to clean off the overspray. Go for it - have fun! It wasn't hard. Just take the time to prep and clean the surface plus tape off a little to control overspray.

BBQ grill satin black paint on the bottom of the muffler did the trick for me.

I just rattle canned it with some low gloss black Rustoleum. I don't remember which one I bought, as it was a year ago, but it was high temp. So far, so good after a year.
