Man your threads are bad... they make me want to spend tons of money

Now that your upwards of 3.0 degrees of camber up front with you 10.5 +17, think you could have put an 11 inch wheel up front with the 305?

As it sits how close are you to the strut and how close to the fender?

Im finding alot more options in 19X11 opossed to 10.5

Appreciate your thoughts!

I considered getting the OEM Z28 wheels at some point but then I noticed I can benefit more from getting stickier compound than stretching the 305s a bit further. I remember seeing a chart on how much wider of a contact patch can be had with going with .5" wider wheels. It was only like .2"

Let me know which wheels you have found on 19x11"

After careful consideration and test fitting the 18" wheels on my car. I decided to get another set of 19" Apex wheels in same exact sizes that I have now so that I could get some used slicks and/or R7s . I know most of people are scared of having a bit of grinding on the struts but it didn't bother me at all. Since the wheels that I got only cost $1000 a set, it's very hard to pass

FYI, this is how the 18" Apex wheels (18x10.5" +22mm offset with 8mm spacer) look like. As you can see it rubs slightly as the wheel lip sits closer to the knuckle than the 19" Apex on the same width and offset:

I could still have a bit more grinding to the circle welds but I don't want to use 8mm spacers either and the weight difference between 18" and 19" wheels are not that big (22.5lbs-23lbs vs 24.7 lbs)

I also ran off track once and bent one of the front wheels as I went over the concrete bumps but it passed the test! It didn't break but just slightly bent as I would expected from a forged rim. Total cost of that mistake = $250 :P Since it looks like it's repairable I will keep that as a spare

I believe the actual compound itself is more important than the wheel or tire size so financially it makes more sense to get a cheap but strong rotary forged wheels and use the funds on tires. I also didn't have any fitment on rubbing issues with 305/325 NT01s on 19x10.5 and 19x11" wheels so the idea is to have a Track and Track+ set as I don't care much about the street/rain driving. If it ever bothers me I can get some R888R after these Nittos

For those who want to go with wider wheel up front may want to consider adding the C7 Z06 fender flares like in this picture:

some pictures and a video from the last event at the ORP this Saturday.
Car definitely feels better with -2.9 camber and 305/325s but I noticed the understeer is still noticeable on sharp corners. I adjusted my driving style and use a bit more trail braking to increase the front grip on those corners

It was like a GM parking lot that day (2 Camaro SS, C7 Z51 and Chevy SS track package)

and the video. Since it was a bit warmer that day and I couldn't fully get used to those ST47/ST45 compound completely I couldn't improve my previous best lap time (1:54.7) but did very close with NT01s (1:54.9) . I will see how the used slicks/R7s will do next time. Keep in mind though, NT01s weigh about 5 lbs heavier than the Trofeo Rs

Hey Glamcem,

I've really enjoyed reading your detailed report on the evolution of your 1LE > thanks very much for sharing.

I'm curious how you arrived at the decision to add more negative camber to the front. Was this simply personal feel or did you log lap times and tire temps ?

Please keep reporting !

Cheers.

Mainly for two reasons:

1- Most tire manufacturers recommends at least -2.5 camber up front for R comp tires and since we don't have double wishbone setup and lose some camber on corners because of that. I simply target for -2.8 or -3.0 camber so they should wear out more evenly
2- By adding 325s in the rear I felt some understeer and adding more camber helped me getting rid of some of that. I will drive with and without to wickerbill to see how if affects the car's balance (or if it makes any difference)

Since the 18" wheels didn't fit easily I decided to go with another set of 19" wheels so I ordered the same wheels in black color. I also ordered some used Pirelli DH slicks (295 680 19" and 305 690 19"). I cannot wait to have them mounted on the wheels and try them on the next event. My wheels arrive last week and the tires should be here very soon:

Ridge event from this past Wednesday. I could improve my personal best by a "whopping" .02 seconds :P
I was about the drop another half or full second then someone blew and engine and spilled oil on Turn 5 so I decided not to push it any further that day .

Hopefully my slicks will be here pretty soon so that I will get a chance to compare against them to my NT01s next time

Hi, glamcem, great build thread! I've learned so much browsing this thread. My Camaro is my second car and I just started to work on my car. I've been looking for 19'' wheels for track use and I've decided to follow what you did. For the front wheel, I wanted to use 19x10 wheel and 285 tire so that I can avoid using spacer (not very confident to use spacers, no experience using them before) but there is only 1 black 19x10 PS-7 wheel left. So I also ordered 19x10.5 and 19x11 PS-7 wheels as you did (Plus, they are on sale!) and I plan to use 295/30 and 305/30 toyo r888 tires. Based on your experience, I can see I'll also need 5mm spacer to avoid rubbing. One question is, what's the size of hub centric rings do you use? Is it 72.56 mm-67.1 mm? Thanks!

This is what I've been using on mine
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Even with the 19x10" wheels you would still need the spacers for the track alignment since the offset on them is +25 (vs +20mm stock offset). Based on the amount of camber you might need a small grinding on the strut edges but it never bothered me as it's a small edge that shouldn't effect the rigidity . I hope that helps

btw, are you planning to get the R888Rs or R888s? People and Toyo say R888R is superior to the old R888

Thanks, I have ordered the same hub centric rings.

I'll probably follow the recommended camber as follows. I saw this from another thread on this forum, saying it's from Chevy dealer. Toyo recommended -1° to -3° camber for R888R tires.

..............................Camber .............................Toe

Track Front...........-1.5 deg +- 0.15deg............0.1deg +- 0.05 deg

.........Rear............-1.25 deg +- 0.15deg...........0.1deg +- 0.05 deg

I am about to get R888R tires since it's a new generation of R888. Thanks for the information.

Sure. I would go with at least -2.0 camber up front and -1.5 camber in the rear if possible
