ZL1 CAI Options..
Besides Roto-Fab, K&N and Aldo Weld, does anyone know of any other companies producing a CAI for the ZL1 soon?
Vengeance just released theirs today. http://vengeanceracing.net/2017-cama...amaro-zl1.html To me it looks like a pretty lazy design with standard sheet metal and the Roto-Fab takes the win as far as aesthetics and using stock mounting points etc. I don't know why Vengeance made the "highest power output" claim and chose not to provide any data to back it up either. Anybody have any other leads for new CAI's? AFE, Halltech and etc? |

VR's website indicates that it requires ECU tuning for proper operation, whereas Roto-Fab does not require ECU tuning. Not a knock on the VR product at all, just a different group of buyers that will be interested in the VR CAI as there are a lot of folks who don't want to go the ECU tuning route to minimize warranty concerns (though I think warranty concerns still exist for folks who swap the stock intake back on before taking it into the dealer)...

Vengeance Racing doesn't do anything half assed. Their unit is no doubt for max performance, thus requiring a tune, and they're not afraid to put it. I'd rather have an Air intake that needs a tune and getting one then an intake that probably isn't gaining me as much once it's tuned because it has to be kept to a certain threshold for the stock tune.
If you're not tuning, answer is simple, Roto-Fab. If you're going much past that point, then I'm sure Vengeance will deliver. They've already done 2-3 2017 ZL1s as evidenced by their Instagram page that I follow. They've also done numerous Z06s (LT4) and CTS-Vs (LT4). With the ZL1s they did, I know they tried AldoWeld, and it's possible they also tried Roto-Fab or some other brand, and in which case they continued to build their own to get the performance they wanted, showing they weren't satisfied with the other brands they tested. VR doesn't build a lot of their own parts, meaning they're not just a parts maker that throws some quick tested shit on the shelf. The few things they make for the LS/LT based engines are there for a reason. Again, VR does nothing half assed. I'm sure @RonatVengeance will step in if he sees fit. |

To me that tuning statement is just a catch all. Any company could use the same statement as a "save your ass" move. Shouldn't be making any claims without data on hand at time of release in my opinion. Acceptable data to me would be their CAI on a completely stock car with and without a tune. Not data on the car in their pics which at least has headers meth and a tune.
I know Ron personally and other VR guys for many years. This is far from my first go around. I think it could be more aesthetically pleasing but that's what you get when you use bent sheet metal instead of a molded composite. Any insight on other upcoming offerings? |

Does the ZL1 gain any additional whine from any of these intakes?

I sent a message to CAI a while back. They said they are still developing theirs for the 6th Gen ZL1 and it should be out by around September. They said it will be a closed design instead of an open filter set-up.

I'll buy the JLT over anything. Great results on my 5.0 with a blower.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I appreciate your interest in our products and welcome all comments as well (including constructive criticism). A couple of points to share...
*We have tested/installed literally EVERY cold air on the market for C7 Z06s/Gen III CTSVs and now the 2017+ ZL1. I can tell you that any cold air that yields any significant gain in power WILL REQUIRE A TUNE. You do not have to take my word for this... Order your choice of cold air and install and log your ECU. *Knowing the information above we designed our cold air for maximum performance so that your ROI is the absolute best it can be. Most of our builds go well beyond a cold air and for us this system is the best available for what we do. Obviously for anyone trying to retain their factory warranty/avoid recalibrating the ECU this cold air is not for you. *Pictures do not do this system justice. The amount of detail built into the cold air "box" is phenomenal and offers a TRUE seal to the inner fender and the hood. The filter is currently the largest on the market (referencing ZL1 CAIs). You are correct in that it is not a plastic mold, but it is fully powder coated, which is better than many units that arrive with spray bomb wrinkle paint. *We just finished testing and will be sharing all information as soon as we get time to put it together. We have only had the product on our online store/FB for about two days and are extremely busy in the shop right now. Bare with us. I will say that our system is NOT designed to be used without proper ECU calibration. There is so much additional air flow that the ECU closes the TB blade. Those who know the workings of the E92 ECU will understand what I am referencing. Feel free to message me or call the shop with any additional questions/concerns. We are always ready and willing to support our car community any way possible. |
