What makes Camaro stripes "Camaro stripes"?
I was reading an article about stripes and paint jobs and the article was making fun of a mustang that had "Camaro" stripes but didn't really explain the difference. The only difference I usually see in pictures is that Mustangs tend to have thinner stripes than the Camaro. Are there other subtle differences?

Typically, I would think "Camaro Stripes" are only on the hood and trunk. Where as "Mustang Stripes" usually run all the way from the front splitter all the way to the rear bumper, to include the roof. That might be what they're talking about???
I had several people tell me that my previous Stripe Job looked too "Mustang-ish"... |

Well I really like the stripe job you posted here!
And ah I see about the mustang stripes, although I've often seen Camaro stripes run all the way down to the splitter. I guess a good rule of thumb is just follow the stock stripes. |

Blaze has it exactly right. I spend a lot of money to get exactly what I want to look at & drive everytime I get in my wheels. Blaze, that is one fine, fine looking ride. |

Classic "Camaro stripes" are actually more generally speaking Chevrolet stripes, which are a sub-type of a more general industry-wise category called "rally" stripes. As such, they were generally offered on Chevrolet performance cars that came with the RS (rally sport) package. Yes, there are pretty specific criteria:
The 6th gen Camaro is the first Camaro to not be offered with classic Chevrolet stripes from the factory, although it still follows the first rule -- stripes do not extend over the roof. Examples of stripe design: Other Chevrolet Cars: (Usually "performance segment" cars that offered an RS / SS package.) Chevelle: ![]() Nova: Camaro: (Note: 1st gen's stripe design is "reversed") ![]() ![]() ![]()

I like the Chevelle stripes the best. They just seem to be better proportioned than the others. The stripes on the gen 4 just make me sad.

Not sure if these are the Camaro Stripes you're looking for but these are the cars from my day that guys were driving around high school and this one was mine I chose to skip the roof and have a painted as you see I would highly recommend having it painted so it's all clear coated and shiny look so much better than the factory stripes I plan on doing this eventually to my 2017 RS as well. I think it definitely made my 2002 Z28 stand out from the rest

As close as it gets on the 6th gen, but not quite "Camaro/Chevy" stripes.

Don't the 6th Gen Center Stripes go over the roof? I've seen a couple on dealer lots with these. Just to check, I went to Chevrolet.com and built a 2SS Hyber Blue with black center stripe that went across the roof.

To the OP's point, usually when somebody claims a car has "Mustang" stripes, it refers to extending the rally stripe graphic over the roof. However, this is just to poke fun at somebody due to the Mustang / Camaro rivalry. In reality, lots of other manufacturers have traditionally used a full stripe going over the roof, including Dodge. They could therefore just as easily call it "Dodge stripes" although it wouldn't have the same emotional effect. :P
