Vin number search engine??
I've been doing some car hunting on autotrader and it seems the majority of the dealers do a poor job of saying what option are on the cars. Is there a site I can punch the vin into and it would tell what option were on that car? For example if a ZL1 had the carbon fiber hood option. Thanks!

I found the actual dealers websites were way more accurate than the general sites like cars.com or Autotrader.
Don't know of a specific website though. I would be interested to know if a site exists that shows how many x colors cars were built with x options, similar to what you're wanting. |

Once you know the dealer you can search their web site for more details. Most of the Chevy dealer web sites include a link to the window sticker within a car's description. The dealer web site will often tell you if a car is on their lot or still in transit. Sometimes the dealer will have discounts listed on their web site that don't show up on the generic car buyer web sites.

My laminated window sticker details were not completely accurate. On the left column it lists a standard transmission, but I have the A8, as listed in the options section on the right. I really didn't care about what the stock SS options were, I only wanted to have the listing for my build per the VIN.
So I asked my sales rep if they could print out the details according to my VIN. She said no problem, and gave me a two page print out with all of my options specifically. They apparently use a special website for warranty purposes to verify exactly what was sold (and covered by warranty). Last edited by plusmiles; 06-19-2017 at 07:04 PM. |

there's not much hope for a third party providing this. VIN numbers dont encode a whole lot of information. They dont encode all the RPO's that go with it and I doubt GM is going to open an API up for anyone to query and that would be the only way to get what you want.

I've used this one. Good luck.
http://vindecipher.com/omnivin/ This one was also helpful. https://uaw.org/uaw-made/ But probably a copy of the window sticker will give more details of what you are looking for. Good luck. |

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, you're saying the factory window sticker that they affix to your car at the end of the assembly line states the manual transmission as standard equipment on the standard features, then your A8 on the option list correct? If that's the case it's correct. A manual transmission is standard on the car and the A8 (now A10) was optional. Your window sticker is 100% completely accurate. There is nothing incorrect or inaccurate about your window sticker. |

First of all, I found pretty much every piece of advertising information on these cars to be wrong online, whether new or used (used was WAY worse). Chevy dealers will generally show a link to the Window Sticker for new cars and that's pretty good most of the time.
Short of getting a look at the option codes off the of the sticker or build sheet, though, it's often really hard to tell if certain features are present or not. And, with a used car, there's the whole entire issue of "what did the previous owner add or remove?" If you're shopping new, shop directly off of chevy.com and input your required options. It will pull exact matches to the top and you can see the details for them AND link to the dealer's web site that has it. |
