Front facing Camera DIY

So this is my first DIY, I wanted a front facing camera to avoid curbs and the only option for Gen 6 is Programming your HMI which is pricey
So if you have a tablet around you can purchase the following:

Step 1 Mount the Transmitter in the gap near the passenger side using the Provided 3M Name: IMG_4088.jpg

Step 2 Mount the camera on the grill using a double sided tapeName: IMG_4078.jpg

Step 3
connect the S-Video cable the one with the Yellow ends to the Camera receiver and to the transmitter receiver Yellow end (note the Camera comes with very long wire so you can tuck it under the shroud and the fender side using the wire clipsName: IMG_4087.jpg

Step 4 connect the negative (the black wires from the receiver and from the camera to the negative pole near the fuse boxName: IMG_4089.jpg

Step 5 connect the red wire from the receiver to the red wire of the camera and the fuse tap together and use Fuse number 58, note the new fuse goes on the top and the old in the bottom

Step 6 hide all the wires using the clips Name: IMG_4090.jpg

Size: 212.2 KB

Step 7
Install the app WIFIAV, connect to the transmitter wifi and you are all set

Note while you have the tablet you can install dash command and Navmii for more fun[ATTACH][ATTACH][ATTACH]Name: IMG_4085.jpg

Great idea but I don't have a way to view the camera since I cant tap into my screen. I don't have that Lenovo you show in the pic. I got the 2SS with GPS built in. I wonder if there is a way of getting that to show on our screen in the dash

how does that dash command work? I know you need something that connects to the ODB 2 right? I know they offer a Bluetooth and a wifi version but doesn't that block out OnStar reports?

I did do that to me on my 2010 Camaro when I plugged in my gauges.

Yes you can use your screen but it will cost almost $600, my setup works with an iPad or any tablet around $100 or even your smartphone
If you want to use the car screen you can get the set up from here

The iPhone will connect to the wifi created by the transmitter and then you download the app and it will show you the camera

How does the camera know when to turn on? Or is it something you need to turn on in the app and then you see the live camera?

As soon as you open the app you will see the camera on
Technically the camera is always on as long as the ignition is on, you see it when you open the app, check the video above

Yes, pricey

yes, the camera is pricey, but I like having a clean instrument panel and the camera icon on the screen. The instructions to install the camera are not updated and show taking the wheel and tire off and removing the inner fender, this is not required and much simpler by routing through the engine compartment. Yes, $600 is a chunk of change, but I think worth it. Should be standard equipment from the factory.
