That indeed is the right question. I just don't know enough about how inspections are in NY. A dealer in another state might be prevented by GM's system from installing the tune for all I know. Then again, they may not have anyway of telling.

It is doubtful there are any restrictions geographically. (think about if you move to and from a carb/non carb state..

In carb states, you can install it yourself and have it tuned in another state likely. The reality is that due to the moss-magnesun act they would have to prove that a part failed as a result of the installation of the intake.

I would tend to agree, but the system might force the tech to enter the state the vehicle is registered in.

As for MM, don't bet on it. The word "Limited" in the warranty gives them lots of legal leeway, plus you would have to hire a lawyer and go through lengthy ligation. Not that you might not win, but the costs would likely be more than people are willing to deal with.

Which is why it MIGHT be a good idea to let the dealer install it.

Your cars VIN is attached to either carb or non carb when mine was built it had boxes of what carb state it was going to if you needed it to be carb compliant. California doesn't even get that option not sure about others carbs states but TX there were those options.

What boxes? Where? On the sticker? I still have that somewhere.

It's not on the window sticker from what I can tell. I can definitely see it being possible, but why mark anything VIN specific about CARB when all the cars are compliant leaving the factory. What happens when a dealer swaps theirs for another from another non-CARB state? I honestly don't think this is the case.

I have to agree. Since they ship them all with secondary cats, it wouldn't make sense to ship with different ECMs (except maybe CA). Make them all CARB compliant and be done with it. We need a REAL expert to chime in on this.

When it was ordered the form had a box you could check for carb compliant states. I don't think it's a different ECU I think it's coded to show carb compliant so they know.

Gotcha. I didn't order mine. Took it right off the showroom floor.

Still, as was said earlier, it wouldn't make sense to use two different codes/tunes when the cars can be dealer transferred from a non-CARB state to a CARB state.
