That's pretty anemic when compared to a LT1:

Off-idle, the 6.2 is making more than 130 ft/lbs torque more than the V6's peak...

What about the 5.0 Coyote?

Even off idle the little 5.0 is 50 ft/lbs above the LGX's peak and by 3500rpm is at least 100 ft/lbs over it.

I myself live at altitude and torque (or the lack thereof) is that much more noticeable. Torque alone would be the reason to go with the V8 for me, but I also recognize that the V6 Camaro's performance is far better than it's ever been. Just still not enough for me.

you realize the Camaro is also lighter right. you also realize the challenger hemi rt does 0 60 is 5.1 mustang gt 4.6 as well right? 95 percent of guys do not track their cars so all that matters to those guys is 0 60. whats the 0 to 60 of your wagon stock? 4 seconds? how much was it new? 2 or 3 times more then my car? 5 seconds to 60 is good enough for me. and back to the original post I could have gotten a base gt or rt for the price I payed. my car is better then those options. If money was no object and buying a SS then dropping 5 to 10k in to it like you posted then I would but unfortunately I am a blue collar factory worker and bought the working mans Camaro.

they could sell a 1500 hp mustang GT for $20k and I still would not buy one.

I am brand loyal I have been since my 1st car back in 1992 (92 Z/28) up until present. I did say last year the 6th Gen is overpriced and to this day it still is. Now if you can land discounts to bring the price down it's well worth it. I waited and finally pulled the trigger on a 17 2SS convertible. Car was $53k no way I was willing to pay that much but with close to $10k off I was ok with that.

You are so off base...you can get fantastic deals on Camaros too if you shop around, look into rebates and incentives...they are ALWAYS out there. I ordered my SS 1LE on the first day you could, and my dealer gave me over $5000 off after everything...so again, stop comparing discounted Mustangs to Camaros at MSRP that nobody pays...

Why do people insist on competing with the Mustang on price?

Personally I feel superior on the road whenever I see a Mustang because there's 10 of them for every one of ours I see. We all know what the better car is and usually the ones driving a mustang GT drove it right out of their trailer park where their driving experience is delivering Dominos to pay off their 100% financed loan.

I mean no offense.. but I kinda do. The Mustang GT and SS are not in the same class and should not be treated as such. This coming from someone who used to be one of those poverty level GT owners.

Would you want Mercedes to start cheaping down and pricing to compete with a Ford Fiesta?

Say what? Just went to build and price a 2017 Mustang GT and 2017 Camaro SS:

The MSRP of a 2017 Camaro SS now is $36,900.
The MSRP of a 2017 Mustang GT now is $34,095.

That is only a $2805 difference before any additional discounts and haggling. Not sure how $2800 is "far more expensive", especially since the Camaro has standard equipment the Mustang does not?

THANK YOU!!! See people the prices are not that far off for base GT and base SS are not that far off!!!

Yes the SS is more expensive than the GT!!! But the SS is a much better sports car/coupe than the GT!!! And keep in mind we already know what the full pricing is for the 2018 SS and they are starting production next week!!! We still don't know any of the final numbers for the 2018 GT be it HP/TQ or price, and it looks like they won't start production until very late this year.

In SoCal at a dealer near me you can get a Mustang GT manual with 3.55 gear option and the wheel package (19s/255s) (my preferences) off the lot for about $29k, which I was quoted. That's not the silly incentives that no one qualifies for price. The best 1SS pricing I've ever seen here is 34,995 with NPP. So it comes down to whether $5k more for a comparable trim SS is worth it. Being sub $30k before tax for a new 5.0 is obviously an attractive deal for some no doubt. I do think if you get a mustang you'll be spending $ on an aftermarket exhaust though. Stock is very muted.

Your post is completely misleading as in reality equivalently-equipped cars are $5-10k off of each other when they leave the lot.

If a 2017 GT Premium car (MSRP north of $40k?) can roll off the lot for $31k, what does a 2SS comparably equipped transact at?

Troll much?

I compared two comparably equipped cars...and 1SS and a GT. If you want to get technical, the 1SS is better equipped than a GT. Have you seen the regular GT center stack with the cheap little screen? A 1SS has a standard HD touchscreen that is like three times it's size. That alone is a pretty big difference in this day and age.

A 2SS is far better equipped than a GT premium as well if you want to go that route...there is a reason the Camaro costs slightly more. It is more car...

As someone who owns BOTH a GT premium and a 2SS, I can tell you there was only about a $3500 price difference when all my dealing was done.

...and I prefer the Camaro over the Mustang, by A LOT. It is just a much better driving car. More power, better handling, better brakes, more tech, sounds better, etc, etc...

...and my Mustang is one of the who knows how many thousands that has the "diff vibration" they can't fix. So driving it on highway trips is beyond annoying.

All I can say is if you are undecided...GET THE CAMARO.
