What has been your experience with front end paint chips on your 6G Camaro?

My car has accumulated a number of fairly large paint chips on the front fascia, at the lower points. My plan was to put paint protection on the car right away, but I gathered two decently sized chips literally within 30 minutes from leaving the dealership (a few days after I noticed a few in the rear wheel well lips). Then, once I got the chips repaired at the body shop, I again accumulated chips in other areas very soon after.

I have not had a car that has chipped this easily on the front fascia. So, my question is, how many others are accumulating chips easily on the front of their car?

The paint is much, much thinner, yes. But both 2012 Mustangs I had were not this bad, and I autocrossed and tracked those cars A LOT over five (5) years.

My white 2016 has more noticeble front end chips than my 2010. I drove my 2010 90k miles in 6 years. I've drove my 2016 12k miles in 1 year. A little disappointing I have more noticeable ines now than I did after 6 years of the old.

No paint chips/rock damage on the front in over 11k miles.

I rarely drive on highways and never tailgate.

Manufactures are maximizing profits therefor minimizing paint. I would even be willing to pay a little more for thicker and harder paint and no orange peel. You would think a 40-60 grand car would not have orange peel. Seen a new black ZL1 at the dealership and it had a terrible paint job. And it's not just GM.

Awhile back on the GM truck forums there were mentions of the same chipping issue. Turns out it wasn't so much that the mfg's were just using cheaper paints. It was using paint the met or exceeded EPA requirements. Did not save the links, but the info is out there.

Is it a question of the paint being thinner, or is it more brittle?

2013 5th Gen here. I bought mine 2 years in, with a good number of chips and a few nicks in the windshield. The previous owner must have done a lot of highway driving, confirmed by the 3 AM talk radio preset rub marks on the surface finish. He sure loved preset 1, preset 2 a bit less & preset 3 hardly. They are only noticeable when radio is off. I believe for Gen 6 the surface is smooth, an upgrade.

Back to rock chips, I had my front clip resurfaced and reprayed since I don't do highways. So far, so good.

One way to cut down on the highway chips is leave a decent amount of room in front, no tailgating or even close and stick to the right lane. Not the coolest lane to be in but it saves your front clip and windshield Gen 5, Gen 6, or any other ride.

Bought mine, drove it home and it sat for a month until I had Xpel installed on the front, hood and mirrors. No chips to worry with...
