Man, I've just lost a lot of respect for Whipple after reading this thread. The poorly done instructions are definitely unacceptable, and the manufacturing defect on the blower is really scary. I've always been a Magnuson guy, but was really considering doing a Whipple 1LE build. Now I'm not so sure. Looks like another Heartbeat blower may be in my future.

I hope Whipple steps up and makes things right. I'd at least ask about being compensated for what if costs to have the engine gone through due to the metal shavings. I know they probably aren't technically liable for consequential damage like that, but how they handle this will say a lot about them as a company. I'd be pissed off if I were in this situation. Such a bummer.

It was delivered yesterday so I am awaiting feedback on the unit.

So far dialogue with them has been good we will see.

Just bear in mind for every 1 bad scenario there are many happy customers as well. I'm trying to stay positive as much as I am majorly depressed about all this right now.

Wow, WTF is going on with these Whipple builds. I'm not going to say too much since I run a Magnuson, but none of these things happened on my build. Sorry to hear they didn't get things right with the instructions and other things that have been mentioned in this thread.

I'm adding the video here that I posted in Brettman's thread just to keep it where it should be.

This is the video before our first test drive.

As you can tell there is nothing at all amiss here. All occured after pulling into driveway after that first drive.

I hear you on that. There is obviously always risk involved when modifying a car, and no company's product is 100% perfect. I'm just disappointed in Whipple's installation instructions, and what seems like maybe a lack of quality control.

Did they tell you what went wrong? I want to make sure this is a unique occurence.

To BMW; the installation instructions are lacking but they aren't that bad. I installed it in a weekend in my garage and mine performs perfectly ( knock on wood ). Whipple has sold a few hundred of these kits and I only know of one failure. Internet forums have a way to amplify the voice of what goes wrong. Kudos to Whipple for remedying the situation.

@Nick no they couldn't figure out other than knew something went through screws and seized them.

I thanked them for standing by their customer and not giving me a hard time. This was a major stress scenario because $8K doesn't come around to use for selfish purchases very often (for me anyhow.)

Very relieved.

I'm actually relieved also. It's great to know they stand behind thier product. It will be simple to just bolt on a new supercharger - all the hard work is done.

Unfortunately not. I have to pull heads and flush any metal out and clean cylinders in fear of any metal went through motor.

Still need to pull oil pan and check that.

I have been kind of head in sand regarding that check as that could be the diff between pulling motor or not.

I do know that manually turning motor was smooth so I have high hopes that doesn't need to happen. I have help for the heads and cylinders, and even pulling motor....but if the motor comes out at that point I have to decide if while it's out any other work gets done or not and that will be done by a shop if so.

But I doubt it will come to that.
