I just removed the sound tube from the firewall, used the plug to close it up and capped off the sound tube with the prescribed rubber patio chair 1" plugs. It fits perfectly. I then zip tied the tube rather than remove the whole thing. I wasn't as concerned with the look of the thing versus seeing how much of a difference in cabin sound there would be. Check out the pix

that rubber cap probably won't last long in the heat of the engine bay

It's a subtle difference - best I can describe is that I hear my exhaust coming from the back a bit more, and a bit less of that airey, "ticking injector" noise from the front, but again it's subtle. All in all, I think most will find the difference subjective, some may notice nothing I suppose. I have the Borla Atak exhaust, with secondary cat delete so it's fairly loud, but still quiet during cruise.

I notice at certain rpm and gas pedal position... I push the pedal a little more and suddenly the engine is louder (sound coming in through the dash) .. it is this "airey" intake sound I don't like and I presume it is the sound tube "feature".

Nice! Wish I had thought of that before spending on the replacement firewall plug! LOL

Here's an update on the sound with the tube disconnected.....

I'm actually thinking I might like it better with it attached. After driving on the highway for a few days, I've noticed that it is much quieter than I originally thought, maybe too quiet for my taste. Whatever sound dampening was used in the 6th gen really works. I'm going to try it reattached again before I decide for certain which way I prefer it. I'm glad I just left it in the engine bay, as it's as simple as uncapping the tube and reattaching it to the firewall.
