Holy Brake Dust Batman!

Wow, do these things put out some brake dust?! I wash my car and the next day I see brake dust all over the rims. Talk to me about what to do to prevent this? I know...more gas pedal, less brake pedal. What else can I do?

Install powerstop pads, nothing else but new pads works to stop dust generation.

Does anyone have the Powerstop part numbers for the 2017 ZL1?

Powerstop, Hawk or Carbotech carbon ceramic pads all will lower the dusting over stock pads 80+%.

The only aftermarket brakes for the 2017 ZL-1 is from Racing Brakes and it is a complete CCB replacement kit. There are not front any aftermarket pads that will fit the 2017 ZL-1 that i can find. I believe the rear pads are the same as the C7 Z06.

You are correct. I have emailed Carbotech to see if they plan on having the 1521s for the front axle anytime soon and Powerstop so far only makes Ceramic brake pads up to the Brembo 6 pistons on the 2SS.

Don't drive it. HaHa. Or sell it to me. Just take the thing to the car wash when the brakes are cold and power wash them They will squeak no more. Eventually they will slow down the dust. The rotors are new and rough.

My Carbotech guy says the 1521 is available for the ZL1. Do check out what he says with the front/rear pad numbers in case he is thinking of the 1LE or 2SS with Brembos. But here is what he said.

F::CT1405 1521 $267
R:CT1718 1521 $173

I use them on my Z06 and the braking is fine (not for the track however) and the dust is down about 80-90%. I was having to clean my wheels daily and it is now about once/2 weeks. A lot of the Y body guys swear by the Powerstops as they are way less costly.

If Adam is right about the pads these are the same pads as the 2015-2017 Z06 pads so would be readily available. But somebody needs to check the pad part numbers. I cannot find the ZL1 pad part numbers on any GM site or aftermarket site at this time.

Edit: Just chatted with Adam. He said GM got smart this time around and is using the same calipers front and rear on the ZL1 and the Z06, so your choices in pads are huge both for low dusting street pads in carbon ceramic and good race and track pads from the good manufacturers.

When I had my C6 it was the same thing. Even just tooling around produced so much brake dust that I was forever cleaning the chromed wheels. I had the black wheels on my Gen5 car, and it helped a lot because you couldnt see the brake dust quite so easily.
