Vette has beak in oil & some sort of assembly lube that can cause it to foam...thus the 500mi oil change requirement. Besides that, they are somewhat similar in the recommended break in procedure. Mr. W had a post on it not too far back.

The vette has no break in oil, been discussed many times on vette site. It's Good old dexos 1 that should be changed at 500 due to oil mixed with sealants than can cause foaming at high rpm in dry sump systems.

But still no reason I know why theirs is 500 and ours is 1500. I'm still a tech editor there.....I'll check.

Wish I could find that post...I recall the 500mi was tied to the oil, but overall the break in suggestions were pretty close. Sorry if I'm off on this.

I think he pulled them from the manual...I didn't pay too much attn because I don't have a vette & only focused on my own 1500.

Tied to the oil sure, but more specifically the degredation of the oil's anti foaming properties If I could link the PDF I googled I would, but search g_0000205212 and the first link that pops up is the PDF via CorvetteForum.com Below is the guts from that PDF:

2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes – Additional Required Maintenance

The following message only applies to dry sump Corvettes that have not had their first oil change performed.

Some 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes may experience a condition that leads to oil leaking out from the air cleaner assembly. This
condition may be caused by running the engine continuously at a high engine speed with the first factory fill oil, resulting in silicone
sealants in the engine’s gaskets degrading the oil’s anti-foaming agents. The oil foam has no effect on the engine’s durability.

Effective Immediately:
GM is changing the required maintenance schedule for all 2014/2015 Z51 and Z06 Corvettes equipped with dry sump systems. The new
schedule will require the oil/filter be changed immediately after the break-in period, which occurs after the first 500 miles of operation.
Once the break-in oil change is performed and the Oil Life Monitoring system is reset, customers should follow the Oil Life Monitoring
system for all future oil change needs.

Looking at my Corvette manual, it says the dry sump system in the Z51 package and Z06 needs the break-in oil change at 500 miles.

Break-in isn't just for motors. Differential and transmission differences between Camaro and Corvette might account for the difference.

Manual Vettes writhing dry slump got 500 extra paid oil change. My non dry slump auto Vette did not. Of course 14/15 Vettes also got 4 free oil changes or 5 with dry slump. 16's cut it back to 2 or 3 and all Z06's had dry even with auto so got the extra.

Thanks for the replies. I'd just like to know specifically why WE need 1,000 more miles for actual break-in.

The 1500mi applies to both the Corvette and the Camaro in terms of vehicle break in (RPM limiting, speed limiting, etc.). The 500mi oil deal on the dry sump Vettes is a separate deal from the 1500mi vehicle break in.

Nope...there is a diff...the vette is 500 miles below 4000 rpm, the Camaro is 1500...damned if I know why it's diff...maybe ask at the next camarofest event?

I wouldn't be surprised if they changed that after adding the dry sump break in however. I'll try to find a first publish 2014 book and see there. They both use the same engines LT! wise...
