Ordering rally stripes from the dealer or do your own?

Which do you recommend? I like the stripes from the dealership but the options are limited (can't do red on blue tf?)

I also want to do something different/unique but I'm not a creative person all and Rd hard to mentally visualize how something would look. (For example White stripes with red outer lining)

I had mine done locally but patterned after the factory. I wish now I would have added pinstripes along the outside edges. Too late now as I have PPF covering the nose and don't want to pull that off to add the pinstripes. Do a little searching on this forum and you should see plenty of different stripe choices others have used. Several of the sponsored vendors on the sites also sell a variety of pre-cut kits.

The ones available from GM through the dealers are nothing special and not really a cost savings.

My vinyl guy priced his work under what the dealership wanted for the option when building the car. Plus my vinyl guy could do a bunch of different stuff that would make mine stand out versus others.

My dealer offered his back showroom for my Vette, no charge for my guy to do it.

I plan on doing them. Don't like the outline around the hood vents or how they don't lip over the edges. Over time if I like them plan on dropping the coin and having them painted them on.

The vinyl stripes are really not that hard to install. I did my own, saved me a ton of money. Bought them from 6LE Designs. A silicone squeegee, and a spray bottle with a little soapy water is all you need. I find it easiest to buy a thin (1/8") pin stripe from somewhere like O'Reilly's or similar and measure to put it right down the middle of your hood and trunk. Then while they're still wet, you can measure to make sure they are the same distance from the middle pin stripe. The fender hashmarks were installed when I bought the car, but I did all the rest by myself. A few beers, some patience, and a Friday night with nothing else to do...

Thank You Gentlemen, I appreciate the compliments!!! I'm kinda proud of the job I did on the stripes, they are definitely "unique"!!! But thinking of going a different direction now....maybe a carbon fiber wrap on the hood, trunk, and spoiler. If I do it, I'll probably leave that install up to someone with more experience....especially trying to wrap the spoiler!

Another option is to have the stripes painted on. Two big benefits.
1. no more 'edge' to trap polish/wax
2. you can choose any color you want.

When I had the painted on, on my 2011 I went with a Mercedes Pearl White.

Yes painting them cost a bit more, but for some, it's worth the cost.

Without a doubt, painting the stripes on will provide a far superior quality result, no argument there. But with vinyl, I like the fact that I can change the entire look of my car on a single Friday night with fairly minimal cost. I would have a hard time committing to one single look or style....permanently!!!
