I agree with the trade in. No one would spend more that 35k for a used one when they can get it new for 40-43k. Plus the dealer has to make money too.

Just a guess, but I think that 35k number has a few extra grand built-in based on how much you agreed to overpay for the other vehicle. Remember, just because it is worth less than you paid doesn't mean you have lost money. You haven't lost anything until you sell...

As others have said. New 1LE's are selling right at $39K with the 2018 just around the corner. If the dealer will give you an honest $35K for the car without a trade in then I would jump at that. Problem is they are more than likely padding the trade amount with money they plan to steal from you on the new car. If you simply walked up and tried to sell it to them my guess is closer to $32K.
I ran into the same issue shortly after buying my 2012 45th Anniv. The car was 6 months old with 1100 miles when I started a new job that required a car that got better mileage and that I could rely on daily. I tried selling it, trading it, selling to Carmax etc etc. Best offer I could get on the car at the time was $28K. Keep in mind that I paid $43K 6 months earlier. When all was said and done it was almost a wash for me to simply go out and buy another car without selling the 45th. I was going to lose $15K on the Camaro but I was able to pick up a brand new 2012 Camry for $19K. Crazy but that's how it works. Figure 20% loss the moment you sign the papers. It sucks but that's the down side to buying GM or anything non-Japanese really. |

That's a fair trade in value. As others have mentioned the dealer needs to make a profit and new ones are discounted very well. Not sure why you expected more.

I also agree with others. In order to get more than what they offer for your trade, you will need to be able to sell it at least 37-38k in order to make up for the tax benefit of a trade.
For the reference, I am the first one who bought a used 1LE AFAIK, I got my HBM with 800 miles on it and it's a CPO vehicle (48k/100k warranty). I paid $36,400 +tax...etc That was a couple months ago

That $35k in trade would be like $38.5k selling outright considering the tax advantage of trading here in KS. Sales tax is damn near 10% nowadays, and you pay sales tax on the difference ~10% x (new-trade). Pretty much the ONLY benefit of trading here, besides convenience vs. selling outright.
That said, $35k's a damn near spectacular offer IMO. Dealer must have a buyer already and plans to flip it fast. Market is $40 to 43 brand new. Probably $35k for a stripper 1SS (non 1LE). FWIW, we got $26k trade (~$28.6k outright) for our '15 1LE back in December (was 14 mo old and had just over 10k miles). Paid around $39k new. Needed tires and those you can figure at ~$1.5k, so like $30k net net on that trade ($10k delta in 12 mo). Pay to play...around $1/mile. ![]() Use GM Card rebate and get your best possible deal new to soften the blow.... Last edited by bub; 05-17-2017 at 04:18 PM. |

Don't buy a new car and sell it within a year and expect for it to be an investment (unless your buying limited run hypercars). I run a lease facilitator and on average ALG estimates first-year depreciation at 25% (15% on year 2 then 10% every year after). SO if sticker was $46,600 x 75% = $34,950. I'd say they hit it on the nose!
EDIT: I'd like to mention there is very little info on the car with the 1LE package. I've had my eye on Manheim to see if any have crossed the auction block but none yet. I'll let you guys know when one magically does.

You also mention that they are seeing the 1SS and you think they base their offer on that. Truth is, they are. It's a 1SS Camaro. To the average Joe they care little if it is a 1LE.
I agree that the offer is decent.

It depends on what do you want to get instead. If it is a new 2017 you should wait few more months as more incentives will kick in across manufacturers.
I read that April was brutal for most car manufacturers and inventory is high (Ford talk layoffs in some production lines), so I would expect good rebates around end-of-June and summer time (July/August). Your 1LE residual value will not change much between now and August. |

Hmm they permanently banned my buddy backeddy on here for even suggesting that prices would be in the mid 30's this summer. I paid 38,700 for mine 2 weeks ago, but I EXPECT it to be worth 28k at the end of the year ( If I can get all these damn rattles fixed!)

Where do you guys see all these 1LE's available at? I've begged every Dealer in St.Louis to find me a HB 1LE. They can not.
Every time they try a Dealer trade somebody ends up buying the car before they can trade for it! $41,000 is the best price I received on a 47,6xx MSRP. But again it sold before my Dealer could trade for it. OP, list it Private party. You will always get more that way. |
