V6 1LE vs BMW M2 Head to Head
My apologies if this has been posted before, my search function appears to be broken. Or at very least, it doesn't seem to want to search for "m2 vs v6 1le", perhaps the character strings are too short? Anyways, I just found this while looking around for V6 1LE reviews and thought I would share:
https://youtu.be/bCp3KOJ4jZQ Obviously there are sizeable differences between these two cars: NA vs FI, HP/LB, and TQ/LB most notably. But I also found it interesting that they were comparing a 2LT 1LE that was optioned out to around 40k, and went with the assumption that both cars would be purchased at MSRP. The reality, as we know, is that anyone spending 40k on a Camaro will more than likely be looking at a V8, and the V6 1LEs can be had for right around 30k in 1LS trim. On the other hand, the M2 is limited production (practically unobtainium by comparison to the Camaro), and from my understanding cannot be had for less than 60k. Given the more realistic 30k difference in street price, I'd say the V6 1LE more than held its own here. Thoughts? |

But if you can find one for under $30K, it seems like a steal to me. If you use cars.com or another inventory search engine that gives prices, there are 1LS V6 1LE models for as low as $27K. You might have to travel to find one, but when you consider a Toyota 86 or Miata are about the same money, it seems like a no brainer. BTW, in Colorado where dealers have a geographic stranglehold since the next major markets are 500+ miles away, M2s sold out at the beginning of the model year for $10K over sticker. As far as V6 1LE, according to cars.com, there are a grand total of two in the entire state and both are 2LT and sticker at $40K. BTW, the Chevy inventory search tool is completely useless and broken, so don't bother. I know several people who have started flying to Texas/Arizona/California/Florida/Wherever to buy cars, since the Colorado dealers are such a ripoff. It isn't only GM. Ford, Subaru, Honda, BMW, and several others try to take advantage of the market here for lower production cars. I am guessing the Civic Type R will be the next ridiculous rip off. The last one was the Focus RS, which dealers basically held hostage for $5-10K ADM. |

My local dealer has one that is optioned out quite strangely: 2LT, Convenience /Lighting, and a sunroof. Sticker is about 42k and I was like...why? When the 1SS 1LE MSRPs for 44k, I was just shaking my head trying to figure it out.

I think the comparison should have been done between the M2 and a SS (essentially a V6 1LE with LT1/TR6060).

They tested the SS against the M4, and it was pretty much even. YouTube froze before they got to the final numbers for this video for me, but I'm pretty sure the SS would beat the M2 up pretty good.

. I would love to sit down and have a coffee with the Camaro product planners on this one. If they were smart, they would've bundled the Convenience/Lighting into the package and made it so you could not order a sunroof. That way you minimize the variations coming down the line and there is an logical price spread ($7k) between the 2LT 1LE and a loaded 2SS. |
