Ok so here are some laps of the first session out in the 1LE at Sonoma Raceway. Given that, it's not the most efficient or smoothest driving, but a couple of 149.2's ain't bad for a showroom car. I'm amazed by this car in factory form on the track, even the brake pads handled everything I threw at them. Car tends to get a bit greasy and has progressively worse mid to late corner push as the session goes on. I'm excited to give a 305 square set up a go soon. BTW, is anyone elses PDR brake sensor off? I'm definitely into the abs and mashing the pedal more than the PDR displays.

PDR shows pedal stroke, not effort. I had the same thought until I noticed when pads were getting thin/needed brake bleed PDR showed more brake pedal.

Interesting read, and it was the R888R, not NT01. If anything though, it intrigues me that the RS4's took the longest to come up to temp on an autocross ; maybe an advantage for track guys and would help answer why my PTE Miata buddies say they wear like iron in 8 hour enduros... harder compound more resistant to overheating and faster wear.

I guess this review gives a thumbs up to the new R888R albeit in a limited fashion as their car broke down. OTOH autox comparos in 30 second runs is neither here nor there as compared to 30mins road course stints. And indeed RS4 could perform very differently there. Either way, a clear sign that uber street tires have gotten very close to "R-comps" except perhaps for prolonged heat management (and this would be expected IMO).
Speaking of tires, a forum member OminouSS loves Cup2s on his ZL1 and he ain't a novice by any means. He's now on his 3rd or 4th set (last one being the first brand new set to boot!). You can see his vids and comments in Road Course section of the forum. So, it looks like we have at least 3 decent choices for tires on stock rims: GY stockers, RE71R in 295 square and Cup2 in square or slight stagger. This ain't bad, albeit not as plentiful as 19 inch choices of course, especially with a wider, 10.5F wheel. |

BTW, as far as Cup2s, in 20s I only see make specific spec tires (PCARS, Bimmer and Benz) and they list super expensive at least on Tire Rack (pretty much $500 per tire)...
Cem, where did you see them in $300 range? |

I attended to another club event at the ORP yesterday (2017-5-20).
Ambient temps were about 15F degrees higher this time so my best lap was 1:55.. I had understeer issues maybe because of the tire temps . Overall I am not that impressed with the Trofeo R tires probably because of the softer sidewalls or the fact that it's recommended with 30 hot psi and -3.0 camber (it was easily 37-38 psis after a few hot laps). I will see how the NT01 will do next time at the ORP Since I accidentally hit the SD card (when I was testing the new OBD Adapter ) my best lap was not recorded on PDR but luckily I had my external GPS on so I could create a video with overlay.. Sorry for the shaky video
