The end is finally here. At least for this chapter. Got the call that it was ready to be picked up just before I was about to leave my office and call them to check on it. The tech was good, and came up and told me he checked on the items I was concerned about and everything looked perfect. The service writer showed me the internal documentation where everything had been noted so the history is written down. Honestly I can't find a bad thing to say about them other than they didn't take me for a car guy until later, not uncommon at all and is expected anywhere, and the rental required me to secure it with my personal card. They paid the bill, but the liability sat on my credit for a while which I would prefer to not have to deal with altogether.
The car does indeed seem perfect. I said good bye with spinning tires and the whole way home it felt just as it did on day one. No noises, smoke, warnings, and all the power was there. Yeah, I'm happy. For the curious, here is the RO that I got. It lacks a lot of detail from the dealer one, but the part numbers and relevant tech notes are on it. I forget who threw out the lifter scenario, but they nailed it.

That's great news. But why did the rear axle light come on?

Apparently the stabilitrak and rear axle lights come on with the flashing CEL situation, even if there is no issue with them. The rear axle only comes on if you have an eLSD like the 1SS 1LE or ZL1. No fault codes for either of them.

They checked for it on the test drive after and could not reproduce it. I paid attention on the way home and it was normal. I will pay attention for the next few weeks for anything out of the ordinary.

Glad you've got the car back! Definitely seems like a quick turn around considering it required tearing into the motor. You must have a great dealer

I kinda lucked out with the dealer. Rick Hendricks is the big one here and I don't think I will ever go there again after my failed car buying attempts with them. Service department may be a whole other story, but I won't chance it. I have bought a few cars from Jim Ellis Audi and the experience has always been great and the service department even better. Same holds true at the chevy dealer as I now have found out.
It was quick, they accommodated, communicated, and I will be back there for any other service related needs. |

Glad you were able to get this fixed without any big headaches!
<<<<<NAILED IT!!!! I really hate knowing that we all have the AFM lifters in our cars. I see this as becoming more common as time progresses. I've already seen a ton of the previous gen AFM cars/trucks with the same problem, especially after crossing the 100k mark. As soon as my warranty is out, or I'm comfortable voiding it, there's a good chance I will convert to normal lifters along with a cam and either head work or new heads altogether.

I think it simply has to do with adding another layer of complexity to what should otherwise be a simple part. Look up side by side pictures of normal vs AFM lifters, you'll see what I mean.
