ZL1 Undercarriage and jack points

I just got back from the dealer and they let me look at my car. I was interested where they jack up the ZL1. I took a bunch of pics. Kinda kool.

Funny, I just did the same thing yesterday. Did you notice the squeezed pipe reduction in the exhaust behind the brackets in your last pic? Has been a topic in other threads.

I do see the squeezed pipe. But it is fatter so the volume should be the same. Good eye

They look like they jacked it up at the wrong points.

There are numerous threads in the Camaro6 non ZL1 forum. Here is one. http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=433703

One had a video that specifically said that that back area is not designed to hold the weight of the car.

Bad thing is in the front, those large holes are where the jacking plate pins should go. It is where the factory carrier probably carried the car. If they took the plate off of their arm the pin would go right into the front holes.

It looks like where he jacked it up is a pretty strong place. Let's hope that is his training as to where to. The large holes looks like the body and might crush, but ok for tie downs.

Great pics, all showing INCORRECT lifting points.

Good news is he was lucky enough to not crush the rockers (barely cleared the lift arm), and more.

Those giant slots in the rockers are to lift at the welded seam.

Put a set of these on and instruct service advisor to add note on warranty ticket.

I think those jack points are for consumers as always as to where someone uses a scissor jack. If you look close, he was never close to the rockers. The place where he jacked it is the same area as where consumers are to place jack stands.

Well, if my car is screwed up, then they will have to fix it.

Yeah, I don't like the looks of those front points at all. The aluminum may seem strong but it is not made to carry the wright of the car. He should have used the pinch welds as mentioned above.

I might get lucky this time, but I want it documented that this was done wrong. I see that the aluminum frame is also part of the motor mounts. It could screw that up. Son of a bitch.

Wouldn't you know, the 2nd time in my life I get a free dealer oil change and both times they phuked it up. The last time was Honda 10 years ago.

Just now we put it up on the lift(drive on) and nothing looks bent at all. I went and looked at the other ZL1 on the showroom and it looks the same. So we shall see today at 3:30 when the body shop checks it out.

It will be OK. I got with the Service Manager (Joe Laubhan who is the top guy there) and I drove it on the lift and we both looked at it and it looks fine. Since it was a 4 point lift, not just jacking the whole car on one point, there is a good chance it is ok. But nevertheless, Joe said he will make sure this never happens again. But, the body shop is going to look at my car just to be safe and check it for correctness. If it is off, they will replace the cross-member.
