Please post Hood wrap photos and products used
I'm curious if any 1le owners are using any additional products on their hood wrap (Other than washing and detail spray) If so please post photos with what you are applying.
Thanks, Randy |

I used Kamikaze Miyabi coating on the hood wrap. It's quite good for preventing water spots and has hydrophobic properties:

No additional products but I found that my normal detailing spray (Garry Dean's Infinite Use Detail Juice) works far better than the Wizards Matte stuff that I picked up. The detail juice does has some wax in it (which is supposed to be a no no on matte) but I dilute mine down quite a bit. Seems to be working great. No super close up pics / matte hood that looks matte.

I got water spots on my wrap. When it's clean and dry you don't see any. But once you wipe it with a damp towel, you see the water spots appear, then disappear when its dry.
Is there a product to take the water spots off? With paint i would just put some wax and buff it off. I never dealt with wrap before. I plan on just getting the hood re-wrapped maybe every year or two |

I actually was wondering if anybody found a product that adds a darker look to it, in other words makes it look less matte or more satin like the rest of the painted bits? I was thinking about a quality low gloss tire gel, plus that may make the matte vinyl less susceptible to getting marked up? Just worried it may not apply evenly...humm.

This is my issue. I noticed this recently. Looks like the dealership may have washed it and let it dry? Annoying nonetheless. I want to rewrap it to better match the splitter, mirrors and spoiler anyway. More of a satin black.

I use Adam's VRT on mine, very light coat. Then I wipe it off with 2-3 clean MF towels. Keeps it looking great for several months.

I just picked up my new 1 le today and noticed there are a couple of light scratches in the corner of the wrap almost like a scuff. Is there anyway to repair this or am I going to have them re wrap the whole hood?

Scratches in matte vinyl are not repairable. I had the same issue upon delivery, and my dealer paid to have a local shop rewrap it. The factory wrap is precut too, and doesn't fit well under the hood vents. A good installer can do a much better job. I just regret not getting a satin wrap this time, it would be less easy to scratch and would be a little closer to the satin painted bits. Vinyl and paint will never match exactly, and I wanted the OEM look, so I passed at the time. But it will be the route I go when I have it wrapped again. I'm anal, and as soon as I notice some scratches of any kind, which will happen, I will have to get it redone lol...

If the dealer stained your wrap, get them to fix it.
I wash and dry my wrap right away to prevent the staining, but when it rains and the sun comes out you are SOL. Maybe try a 50/50 water/ vinegar or hard water spot remover.....

I have also heard of some guys who have spigots on their home water softeners and using water directly from there to wash their cars. There are also a few companies that make water softeners for car detailing, but they are expensive and the softening agents have to be replaced frequently adding to the expense. I would rather just live with spots than pay that kind of money. I know warm water on cuts in the wrap can sometimes help even though it's not a self healing film like Xpel, but if it's abrasions to the surface there probably isn't anything that can be done to fix it short of replacement. :(
