SS Wheels on ZL1 for Daily/Winter Set Up

I have a set of Hyper Silver 20" Gen 6 SS wheels with all weather DWS06 Continental tires; I am wondering if i could use them on the ZL1 or if the offset is different. Anyone with experience using SS wheels on a ZL1? Thanks

They should fit just fine, the 1LE and ZL1 use the same size and offset wheel which also fits onto a SS just fine. The SS wheels with a tire that matches the ZL1 tire ratio would be just fine.

1LE/ZL1

285/30-20 = 26.73" tire height
305/30-20 = 27.20" tire height

SS
245/40-20 = 27.72" tire height
275/35-20 = 27.58" tire height

As you can see the rear tires on the 1LE/ZL1 are almost a 1/2" taller than the fronts. On the SS the fronts are .15" taller than the rears. If you could find the SS front tire in a 245/35-20 it would make the OEM rear SS tire size .8" taller than the front and more in line with how the OEM sizing variance is on the 1LE/ZL1 tires.

Continental shows to offer the DWS06 All Season in a 245/35-20 and 275/35-20 size. Those tires are awesome, we have them on our 2016 Audi SQ5. I have pushed those tires hard in the dry and in the wet and they perform really well.

Thank you that's very helpful! Other concern was the offsets...
The DWS06 is excellent, i have had it on a Golf R and MB S550-4matic and it's a excellent in winter low temp, very good in summer even driven hard, and can pass muster in ice, moderate snow (esp. if awd).

In the SS, it was very good but more palpably softer than the stock Goodyear than i had felt in terms of difference in the Golf R compared with RE70 and MB which came with P-Zero Runflats. I am hoping to use it in ZL1 as winter setup. If it raises front by 0.5 in it may not be so bad provided it stays below high speeds (worsening of aerodynamics).

I tried doing the same thing. The Gen6 SS wheels will not clear the rotors. I have nice scratch on my rotor to prove it. Instead of carefully checking for clearance the tire shop just spun it.

Now I never double checked that they put the front wheel on the front and the rear wheel on the rear, but my experience says they don't fit and I sold my extras SS wheels yesterday.

Hi, thanks for your help but that information is incorrect.

The 20" SS wheels will clear and are useable on the ZL-1

In fact I just mounted them with the stock 2SS 20" tire size wearing DWS06 Continental which is a nice all weather tire.

This makes it possible to daily drive the car in the winter when temps are below 40-50 F and also in snow/ice/rain.

The ZL1 with that setup loses its beast like character and becomes docile. The limits are lower and i haven't pushed is but is is definitely softer feeling but much easier to tolerate over bumpy roads filled with potholes. So this will be my daily setup except in the summer months.

One issue is the front wheels really becomes recessed because of their greater positive offset but there is no rubbing anywhere and certainly not on the brake calipers.

Thanks everyone

Took SS wheels and the skinny 275/245 tires off... car looks dorky and less muscular, I guess they'll be ok in winter time but for now back to stock zl1 gumballs...

No doubt they fit and it's a viable winter setup, drove car all day with them...

I didn't think the wider front fenders on my zl1 were that much wider than an ss until you see how it looks with the ss wheels on it lol

I think that the SS, the 1LE and the ZL1 all use the same front fenders. None are any wider than the others. It is the wheel size and offset that are giving the illusion of a flared fender.

The SS runs a 20x8.5 front wheel with +25 offset, the 1LE and ZL1 use a 20x10 front wheel with +20 offset.

i thought I remember reading that the zl1's have a slightly wider front than the ss, and the 1le's too if I'm not mistaken, but that the rear fenders are the same. That was the reason given as to why none of the zl1 parts up front will fit an ss

...and maybe why we didn't get Camaro badging on our front fenders, I go back and forth about that one lol

ZL1 models have wider front fenders. In conjunction, the hood is a different cut, so the front fascia, fenders, and hood are non-interchangable with other models.

SS and SS 1LE models have standard-dimension front fenders.
