Whipple review.
I've been driving the Whipple for a week now and here are my impressions.
Quality: The parts arive in two large boxes that are packed very well with expanding foam cushioning. The parts are all well labeled and bagged. Everything is visibly high quality. Installation: The installation took me about 30 hours to do by myself. The instructions pretty much suck but they were just good enough that I was able to figure it out. I was not able to get the coolant tank mount push in nuts to work so I just drilled holes in the crash bar and bolted it on. I also had to trim some foam inside the bumper ( to clear the coolant tank ) and a few plastic pieces to mount the heat exchanger - neither were a big deal. The instructions were bad but not so bad you can't figure it out. Driving impressions with Whipple supplied tune: The car drives almost like stock until you punch it. I do keep accidentally spinning the tires and I never spun them on accident stock. The low end torque is incredible. A quick throttle blip to about 20 percent makes the car lurch much harder than full throttle did before. The launch control is now useless - a full throttle launch just blows the tires into smoke. My launch technique is now preload the convertor a bit but not 2000 rpm like stock. That is maybe 10 percent throttle then let off the brake and slowly roll onto the throttle keeping the front up but not spinning. I'm still not at full throttle by 60 mph. If I punch it from a roll it blows the tires into smoke. I have to roll into the throttle there also. It is still pretty cold here so I'm really hoping for better traction this summer. It does shift very hard now and I would be in a world of hurt going full throttle at anything other than a straight line. Reliability: It performs just like stock until you punch it. I haven't been able to keep my foot out of the throttle long enough to measure MPG but it seems to be within a mile per gallon or two of stock. I'm getting.over 25 mpg with ZL1 power levels. Makes me wonder why the ZL1 only gets 20mpg highway? I've been using HP Tuners and a laptop to datalog. I get no KR at all and everything looks great. I'm peaking at 8 PSI of boost at redline. My impression is that the Whipple will not reduce my reliabilty at all. Overall impression: The car is undeniably fast. Everybody I give a ride literally screams when I punch it. It sounds and looks bad ass and everybody that sees it says how wicked it is. The instructions need work but the product itself is great and highly polished. I'm pleased with the Whipple and would recommend it.

nice review.
Btw, I got a new flash (R32) from Whipple. The change on DTCs are P0068, P0106, P0121, P1101 's option changed from "MIL on Second Error" to "No Error Reported" , which means even if there are errors for the codes, never report it. I am not sure it is a good way to solve the problem. Last edited by shinysun; 05-09-2017 at 10:56 PM. |

Sure looks like my Maggie with the lid on or off. Good review and you'll need some drag radials or slicks to hook it up.

The biggest problem with the old flash was... it went "Failsafe Mode" with MIL, but I am sure not anymore with the new flash due to the "No Error Reported", which makes me nervous.

I read up on it a bit and most tuners disable the DTC in some way or another. Some make it RPM dependandt at an RPM range it will never see or some other trick. The underlying issue of throttle position not matching measured air flow vs expected is probably going to happen and trigger the DTC without some form of disable. It does run great now though and doesn't light the MIL or go into failsafe. When I pulled the file off I almost made those changes myself to not report the errors but decided against it. It sounds like that is all Whipple did.

The Maggie, Whipple and Edelbrock could all be twin brothers. I've been researching drag radials and maybe a set of smaller diameter rims that still clear the brakes.

Looks awesome on the car! Congratulations on the install. Good to see you happy with it! I would def recommend some new tires with all of that new power! I absolutely could not get traction in 1st and 2nd with the stock 275's, upgraded to Nitto 555r drag radials and 305 tire width. Hooks up perfect and drives surprisingly well in the rain. I def recommend the Nitto's, and I know a few guys running the Mickey Thompson et streets with no complaints either!

Nick, I have to agree with your review. It's like driving a brand new car! I'm happy with the Whipple as well and would recommend it!
