Go to another dealership.
Back when I was trying to decide between a mustang GT and an SS I had a Ford dealership say that.
Then I test drove a Camaro SS. Now I have a 2SS. Their loss, my gain.

Salesman pre-qualify you in their minds. If you came in driving a normal car and were not dressed nicely he probably figured you were just looking for a joyride and didn't want to bother with you.

The only cars you have trouble test driving from chevy are corvettes and not because of the price but because people do not want to buy them brand new with a few hundred miles on them. When i truck shop my dealer lets me take home 60k+ silverados for a couple days with a dealer plate on it. Come October I get to play that game again when I buy a new duramax.

These are the reasons why i order my car and let it be built. I don't want ANY new car on the dealer lot. Cause all i imagine are the test drives performed on the car

I clarified yesterday whether he mean't by a refundable deposit kind of deal but he confirmed it has to be completely signed off and finalized that I'm buying it. He added in that I basically have to go based off my research on which to choose..
What I found weird is that they had 0 SS's on the lot and one was in service. The only available demo unit is the one that the manager drives around. Either it's selling like hot cakes and they don't care, or it's the opposite and everyone is scared of the beast that is the LT1.
The bold section is the main reason why around here. And maybe something to do with the new salesman as well.

50 miles or less isn't that bad. But i'd probably pass on a car with more than that. I'd consider it similar to a floor model with more than that. Unless they're heavily discounting the floor model - i'd want a new one that hasn't been abused by random people.

I'm pretty sure the Satisfaction Survey sent out after purchase specifically asks if you were offered a test drive before the purchase by the salesperson.

You should let GM know what happened.

On a side note, I think the satisfaction surveys are worthless. What the manufacture needs to know is why I did NOT buy from that dealer or the product.

Ok, off my rant...

I was talking to a supposedly reputable dealership in my area and they said to me basically since it's a 455 HP corvette engine and it's real serious business I'll basically have to buy the car first and get the paperwork done before even getting the chance to test drive one. They also went off mentioning it'll probably be the same at Ford and Dodge too if I try to go for their Mustang/Challengers.

Personally I found this to be a completely backwards mentality and apparently this message came from the manager himself.. Just regurgitated through the salesman over the phone. I found a deposit to be something more realistic but actual purchase beforehand? This isn't a GTR or lambo we're talking about..

With that being said I found out I have a possible connection through my brother in law so I'll see if that inside guy can pull some strings or help us out instead. Otherwise I'll let them know that I'm more than happy to take my business else where
stupid. The car i wanted the dealer didnt have and had to have it brought in, in the mean time they wouldnt let me drive my trade in so they put me in a SS they had on the lot until mine came in.

your dealer is stupid, go to another one?

oh, and i test drove one prior to buying it

For the random questions I've seen pop up. It's Van as in the Vancouver, Canada area. Similar weather to the pacific northwest but it's been beautiful for the past few days before anyone says it's the rainy weather.

I'm 23 but I have a beard going on and I normally pass off as looking my age or slightly above. As far as what I said everything was on topic except for my background which was just explaining how I'm working full time in the medical field. The salesperson even admitted that I knew more about the car than he did (1 month on the job) at one point when we were casually looking at the selection available. At the time he noted the only demo car is the same one that the manager drives around so this may or may not be the big factor coming into play. I doubt the manager owns it. At this point I have a few point of contacts for sales people now thanks to a fellow member and my brother in law, so I'll make it happen and if not I'll be sure to let them know I'll walk.

Cardinal rule in selling a car.....let them drive it and fall in love with it. Sounds like you git a lazy sales rep.

Test drove a 2SS with just my 5 year old son and myself. Now granted, I had purchased a Camaro before from them, but even before I bought my first one I was handed keys and told to go have fun.

Give your business and hard earned money elsewhere.

I've only seen that issue at motorcycle dealerships. On contrast, BMW will happily toss you a set of keys for one of their bikes. They sell a LOT of their bikes that way.

Someone posted it here recently that his dealer let him keep the SS for an evening as part of test drive...
