My low cost drag radial set up SS 1lE
I have only posted here a couple times, but Id thought I would share all this info for those looking to take your car to the strip now and then. I'm going to do some track days and auto cross, but motorcycle road racing & drag racing is my back ground. I'm now 60 and don't want to fall off anymore, and as you know the SS1LE is such a great car !
First I will only install these wheels & tires when I want to go out and make some passes at out local high altitude track, about an hour from my house in Fallon NV. I asked some questions about these wheels in a thread on here and most thought the offset would not work and they most likely would not clear the rear calipers. I measured 3 times and thought they would fit, so I took a chance and ordered one wheel to test fist first from OE Wheels. Ive bought wheels from them before and were nice to deal with. I went with C7 replicas made to fit 88 to 04 Corvette rear. 18 X 10.5 Part # 9489797 $ 135.00 each , plus about $20 shipping ![]() http://www.oewheelsllc.com/18-Fits-C...-Black-18x10-5 Off set 56 BS 7.95" >>> The stock wheel is Super close to this back spacing. I took allot of pictures, here are a few of the test fit of one wheel first. The C7 spokes start to angle out right at the hub so I was hoping they would clear the calipers. The wheel ended up clearing the rear Brimbo caliper by 1/2" and had almost 1 5/8th" at the closest point which is the lower front inner fenders. No spacers and full stud thread contact. Whats also nice is the off set tucked the wheel under the fender lip better, so it will help keep the crap from flying on your car .... I like it so far ! Very nice looking wheel and well made. Center hole is lager than stock, but the lug nuts do a good job of centering it up. The lugs are a bit big on the taper also, so I put a little lapping compound on them and and went on and off a few times. They get plenty of contact, but I would definitely go over the torque at the track a few times between runs. Just Me ! Nice !!! Last edited by dw760; 05-07-2017 at 07:19 PM. |

I ordered up the other wheel and decided to go with the Hoosier DR2 Drag Radials 315/30/18 ... I liked the idea of the shorter tire since my car is the 6 speed manual and it will be easier on the clutch, and help the first 330. I also thought these would fit the best, and again....hopefully no spacers. They ended up fitting fine on the 10.5 " rims !
Stock tire 27.2" The Hoosier above 26" X 12.5" wide ....... They turned out to be about 1 1/4" shorter, but I do have one track day on my stock tires now and 1000 normal street miles. I bought the tires from a distributor on E bay for about $250ea with free shipping ! Hoosier seems to be a great price on these and most say they work great. Last photo ............ I took the car out for a street test yesterday, and I really like the slightly shorter gearing. The thing really rows through the gears.

Same here but im having a hard time finding them for an 18" I'm curious if American racing torqu thrusts would fit well in a 17" so I can run some Hoosier slicks. I'd hate to find out the hard way when they're only about $20-30 cheaper per wheel than race stars that i know will fit

Rear brakes on any ss are the same size. Only the front have a bigger option unless you go aftermarket

I carefully worked my way up on the torque in an even pattern, took the car for a 15 mile test ride, then went over them again. I did not balance the wheels since I wont be using these on the street, and they are still very smooth. At 140 ft-lbs I cant see them going anywhere, but you could always have a thin slight press fit spacer ring machined up for the center hole gap of about 3mm. I think a 27" tire would fit, but the next size up Hoosier is 325/45/18 and they are 30.2" tall .... to much and may have to run a spacer. I had my reasons for running these tires, best chance of fit with less hassle, price, and lower gearing. Cheers Dale
