Borla S-Type swap for deeper/throatier axleback: sanity check

So I've had the Borla S-Type Catback on for about 3000 miles and Ive enjoyed the system, seems loud and people from the outside seem to take notice. However, I really wish it was deeper at the mid to high levels and less race carish. Also, Im not crazy about the tips. The lack of drone is nice, but a little interior resonance reminds one that the car is still loud. Plus I don't really drive on the highway, just back and forth to work at 45mph.

Am I nuts to try and swap the axle back out with something like Flowmaster's American Thunder or SW? Anyone see any compatibility issues?

Any and all suggestions would be welcomed.

No, I have the Borla 11920 and 60606. Stock was NPP but I decided to go without it.

You should have went the atak route. I feel the same about my corsa extremes, they're not loud enough. However...welcome to the LT1 engine...it's generally a high pitch exhaust sound no matter what exhaust you have. I've also learned from my vette that you need to go a sound level up with these engines because they are not as loud as other cars I've had. On my vette I went with borla s type and secondary cat deletes and it sounded good, but I eventually went with a louder exhaust.

Hmmm do you still have your stock NPP muffler with the valved pipes? You know you can cut the outer quad tips' piping from borla's and weld on the stock npp valved piping in its place to have the NPP effect? Part 11920 already has the internals to work with NPP. Just a thought...

Have you concidered doing a custom frankenstein piece using the stock valves to have straight pipes for loud, and then closing the straight pipe valves to rerout the exhaust gas thru a deeper sounding muffler? Kinda like what afe or flowmaster did, but insteas using mufflers of your choice?

I'm just throwing ideaa out there

Before doing the full exhaust change, I would try going with an H-pipe versus the X-pipe further up-stream. Much cheaper than having to sell/ship your S-type and then order a new ATAK.

I don't have the stock set-up anymore, didn't have the space to store it. Also, with such a nice car I hate to fabricate a custom set-up. Most shops only have aluminized steel and cant do mandrel bends. Don't want worry about rust or leaks. Rock and a hard place here, Borla is top notch quality and stellar reputation, and its the system you'd want to have if you let your dad drive the car. However, I just want some more bass and treble.

I'd love to have an H-pipe, but I believe only ARH has one so far for the 6th gen. It made a world of difference on my G8 GT.

I would have to chop up my existing Borla X-pipe and I don't think I could stomach it.

The ATAK is higher pitched than the S type. I have the SW system. It's probably one of the deepest sounding you can get. Very noticeable low rumble idle inside and out. It's just deep loud and mean during any acceleration. Also some interior noise but I like it. If you want deeper don't get ATAK.

SW seems to hit the sweet spot, great looking tips too.

Your used borla would sell quick.

I have the S Type and no complaints here. If you go any deeper in sound you're going to have drone.

I would NOT go with Atak, it's louder but higher pitched which sounds like the opposite of what you are trying to do.

If you want deeper just be careful that you don't go too low in pitch or you will have some bad drone flowmaster & magnaflow drone the worst, SW and MBRP are the middle ground, and MBRP has built in J pipes for eliminating some of he drone, that may be your safest option to do deeper without too much drone.

If you're near Tampa and assuming I ever receive the Borla, I'll have a stock NPP that I'm planning on trashing. You can have it.

MAGAUSA,are you looking to buy the Borla Catback? I live in Panama City and I bought the car in Clearwater. Also, i have family in that area so selling the system to you would be easy enough. I'll need to sleep on it and see if thats the direction I want to take.
