Got one today. I'm young, 23 probably look younger than that. Had someone ask me if it's my dad's car, then when I said no it's mine I worked hard for it, He asked how a 23 year old can afford a brand SS camaro haha

"Hot Damn! Well you get down with your bad self!"
"How fast will it go?"
"Is it the V8?"

And the most important, from the wife:
"That really is a nice looking car. I mean, it looks angry...but it's nice."

Been talking with a long time friend on night shift for probably 6 months about pulling the trigger on a new Camaro. Texted him the other day about getting the Fifty and his first comment was "Bring that nasty car over so we can see it". While there, two things he asked:

"How fast does she go?" - Me: I don't personally know, but I know it won't outrun a Motorola." - Our inside joke for those in the biz.

"How much did she set you back? 70K" - Me: No, about 45K. Him (pointing to his Suburban) "I gave much more for THAT!" (Wife giving him that "look") -

I've had mine for 11 months now, and I live, work, and drive in a place where the bar for what is considered "exotic" or "unusual" is higher than a lot of other parts of the country. As someone said at dinner last night: "The reaction that a Lamborghini or Ferrari might get in a lot of other places is kind of reserved for a Koeniggsegg or a Bugatti in SoCal."

So accordingly, Camaros or even Corvettes don't exactly turn heads around here. But I have noticed some trends:

The people that have the strongest, most positive reactions to the car are younger. Like, under 35. This probably bodes well for GM's styling and marketing prospects soon, if not now. Older people I know have a difficult time seeing the outward differences between a 5th Gen and my 6th Gen. My mom (73 years old) has to ask EVERY time we drive together and she sees a 5th or 6th Gen "Is that the same year as yours?"

I get dirty looks, but not challenges from contemporary Mustang owners. I expected a lot of stoplight aggression when I bought it, but came to realize that they know what's up too, and know that unless I completely suck and they have a driver mod, they're going to lose. I DO get challenges from cars that don't match up at all. Civics, Integras, and even a Tacoma pickup last night. I think they mostly are looking for a free show.

But mostly, it's young people. It will snap the necks of groups of kids walking home from school as you pass, and they'll flock to it at Cars and Coffee. We had dinner with an old friend and his new fiance (and her teens) last night. Her oldest son is 14, and when my wife told him what I drove, it was all over. I got 45 minutes of phone pictures of his future first car, a '68 Chevy C-10, his personal manifesto on why Ford sucks, questions about my SS, and regurgitation of some of the same magazine articles that helped sell ME on the car last year.

I mentioned that I was heading to a nearby gas station with 100 octane so that I could blend up a tank of 93 for my long weekend, and my wife suggested he ride with me on the trip. His excitement was off the chart, and he loved every second of it. He was clearly a bright kid, has a lot of car knowledge for his age. He wants to own his own shop someday, so that he can have and work on cool cars. I suggested he go to college, get an engineering degree, and get into the industry and MAKE cars, and he'll likely be able to afford to drive something pretty cool.

I remember a similar ride or two when I was that age, and I never forgot them. There was probably advice, and knowing my 14-year old self, I am sure I disregarded it. But rides like that, and moments like seeing something awesome roar past as I walked home from school formed the foundation of the desire and motivation I had to work hard be able to have great cars as I got older.

Sorry for the long post... just my two cents.

I'd wager that per capita , there are far fewer Camaro's/Corvette's here in Montana versus the National average. So anytime people see either, they are a bit of an oddity. And of course there are the comments.

Never got a bad comment yet, nothing but compliments.

Mostly on the HBM color. With the exhaust noise at startup...the #2 comment maker.

I get compliments on the 6th gen every day. I only got a few with the 5th gen. I think my 5th gen looked great.

I had a teenage kid come up to me with his Mom when I was leaving the mall a few weeks ago. Heard him tell his Mom "that's the new Camaro I was telling you about, the one with the same engine as a Corvette" before he asked me if I minded if he looked at my car.

That really brought a smile to my face because it's the same enthusiasm I had with my Mom about cool cars when I was a kid.

Gave me hope for the future of America too.... I told him work hard in school and you'll have one too!

I have to say it's insanely impressive that you do own a Camaro SS at 23 years old and are able to pay for the car insurance on the car and I assume rent and groceries and whatever other bills you have in your life as well. I was working in the factory already for a few years by 23 but there's no way I could have afforded a brand new Camaro at that time so good for you kudos

Regarding my new 1LE, people everywhere snap their necks to look at it as I roll by. Every time I stop for gas, someone approaches to compliment or they are rolling past giving thumbs up.

And as expected I get every asshat that thinks his car/diesel is fast, revving their engines at me. I havent had a fast car in a few years, and I forgot about that annoyance. But for the most part its positive from everyone. Its a looker for sure.

People dont say anything to me , I live in Illinois , all we have here is people who try and use your car as a comparison tool as to how fast their 4cyl is, If you pass them for doing 30 in a 55 they will get all pissed off and try to ride your ass , I do say try but sometimes you dont want that ticket, I have had my 2ss for 6 months and i have literally had people stop in the middle of the intersection turning to look at at , It is a neck snapper , but i also am not an approachable looking person so people stay away when I get out of the car. but then again is Illinois .

I get one or 2 compliments a month roughly. Young boys...under 10 lose there $hit over my car lol. The most memorable was when half the kids on a school bus was smiling and pointing at my car while we were parked at a red light.
