Did you buy the Camaro for its Looks?
Attachment 869731I know you're not gonna like this, But I am guessing many of you after seeing the title are going to say for looks and drive and handling..etc..and I dont know if I that's really true.
Because, can you say it drives or handles better than a sporty M4 BMW, which is in the same price range? Mercedes AMG handles pretty nice too. What I am getting at is this: Most of you bought it because it's American Muscle. Has the name, history, it's an Icon. In thread " How did you get into Camaros" you can find generations of Camaro owners. It's American. What do you think most of Asians your age are driving? Chevys and Mustangs? I dont think so. I am sure many of you have watched MECUM auctions. ALL American muscle and almost nothing else, sold for the price of a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. So I would say, most of us bought if for it's looks and it's name. Here, I snipped a piece of a conversation from a BMW forum. Read what Habber has to say. P.S- This is not about race. It's about heritage of a certain group of people that leads them to common choices. It can be cars, it can be type of sports (Football) or other things... I bought it...and will continue to buy them...because I believe, in virtually any form, it's the best performance bang for your buck on the planet.
But yes...it looks good, too. ![]() Motortrend seems to think pretty darned thoroughly that it drives better than an M4. And we have many BMW "converts" on this site who think the same thing. At the very least - they tend to say it's in the same sort of league...which is a compliment in and of itself. And on the other hand, Chevy has stated on multiple occasions that design is the #1 influential factor when buying this car. It's that sort of statistic that caused them to stick with the gun-slit windows, and chopped roof cues. So...I'd like to think that "looks" isn't the ONLY reason a Camaro owner is a Camaro owner. But it sure is a factor, no denying that. |

BUT - I did a lot of research and found that in its price range it was hard to beat on the track. My goal was to find a reasonably priced car I could learn to "race" with. So that's why I bought one. Since then, the looks have grown on me. Thankfully, the mullet hasn't. |

First off. An m4 or Mercedes amg is NOT in the same price range. 10-20k is a big enough difference to put the cars in a different price class. Sub 80-100k, a change in price like that is a big difference for a consumer.
And the change in price is for a reason. We can compare the cars performance wise since they put up similar and competitive numbers. But to go outside of performance is wrong to me. Oh and you can say you like the looks of either car more. But anyways, to me it sounds like you don't even need to ask your question. You have the camaro owners all figured out. Apparently we are all American lovers and like the car cause of its history of the older models. I can guarantee you half or a quarter of us aren't crazy fans of the old camaros. Sure we like them it's the same model. But we got these 6 gens because they are incredible sports car. Oh mecum auctions aren't full of American muscle cars sold for ferrari prices. I've been to houston and my dad bought one of his cars there. they only televise the more popular expensive cars. Lots of cars pass the block under 30 or 20k. Cars of all different types and sizes and brands. This is technically a "collector car auction" so they're going to put those cars on tv. The ones we want to see. This is U.S which means the older collector cars will have more American cars. But many high end European cars cross the block. My favorite at 2012 houston was a red 1994 Porsche turbo. Over 160k |

I had a 2015 mustang GT and the only reason I have an SS was because it destroyed the Mustang

You see a car before you drive it, if you don't love the look you want want to drive it. American cars are designed to love them or hate them, there edgy and personal.
If you had a budget of 250k USD and spend 90k on a corvette Z06 or 65k on a zl1 you buy it because you love the look and bought tires and gas for life but thats another topic. |

I'm a big fan of "bang for the buck", always have been. My last two cars were both Nissan 350Z's. They were both EXCELLENT sports cars. I shopped around for BMW M's, Mercedes AMG's, Cadillac V's before buying a 2017 1SS. Simply put, there was no better bargain on the market. All those other cars would have meant 3-4 years old, with 30-40k on the odometer for my budget. For me, the single biggest factor was performance.

You're comparing the wrong models. A ZL1 will absolutely DESTROY that AMG & the M4...not even close. Both of those cars should be compared to the Camaro SS...and then the VALUE proposition becomes crystal clear.

Nope. Doesn't look as good as the BMWs I am accustomed to driving or the C5 / C6 I've had either.
But the value prop is impossible to ignore. Camaro is finally on par with M class BMW's and even corvettes. Great time to be an enthusiast. |

2015 M4 can be had for around $50K, that's not much difference from a 2SS.
