The way I see it, if you can afford to own any of these beasts, you're very fortunate. I'm just old enough to remember when owning a 14 second car was really something special. If you ran 13s, there wasn't much that could mess with you. Now...Hellcat, Mustang, Camaro! Pick your poison, all extremely fast cars that will get you in trouble well before you're prepared to hit the brakes.

Yes, please hit the strip. It would be nice to see just how accurate the on board timer is compared to the track.

Based on the Z06 it is a little slower. PDR has shown to be about a tenth or two slower to 60 and .2-.3 slower in the 1/4.

I am now at 350 as well. Trying to be a good boy but not easy.

I don't care about all the people that are saying "OH yeah but it's too early to say" and all that. Fact is, the 5 people on the "Fast lists" that pull of 10.8s will the few, while the majority is stuck in the 11s. There's no doubt we're going to be the slowest muscle car brand for the third generation in a row. Hit me with any questions and bring on the flames.
I don't know how old you are but let me tell you I won Super Stock at the drag strip in 1963 turning 1280 ET and 109 mph 11 second street cars that have been untouched and get mid 20's in mpg driving 70ish is unbelieveable I had a 2017 drove home from Atlanta nearly 125 miles at 70ish and got 25.5 mpg it was a 6 speed manual. I have ordered a A10 KG due to physical problems with my legs. The reason the Cadillacs are running so strong is most have been modified I had an ATS-V twin turbo V-6 installed down pipes removed X pipes and had a custom tune installed the car dynoed at 535 RWHP and 550 LBFT of torque.Ran 11.8 at 122 with street tires and got 30 mpg car was rated from factory at 464HP never dynoed it stock so don't know increase, but if you have an A-10 ZL1 long tube headers cold air kit and tune and drag radials I am relatively certain it would impress. That said if you want a straight line drag car buy you a Dodge Demon 808 HP on pump gas. Sorry i almost forgot 1963 409 425 hp Impala SS 2x4 barrel carbs 4:56 positraction rear and slicks got 6-8 mpg in town and 10-12 on road.

...and no A/C, ventilated seats, cruise control, heat coming through the firewall and you had slow way down for corners. I do not miss the old days.

While these are all points to talk about around a bonfire, this is absolutely irrelevant here. It doesn't really matter how it used to be, I remember watching at the strips and seeing the things you're talking about.

I'm sure an exhaust/intake/tune/drag radial ZL1 would impress but that's not stock and that's what we're supposed to be talking about here.

I'd put money on my point and that is, we'll be the slowest muscle car in this generation. GT500 will have more power guaranteed and the current hellcat is just as fast for most purposes that the average owner will use (Highway rolls, and strip) and if they do a refresh on the Hellcat then we'll have even more problems. That's merely my point.

You want to talk mods? Fine. The LT4 maxes out pretty quick due to the small blower. Cam/Heads/Full Bolt Ons/E85/Meth/Ported Blower is probably not even worth 800 RWHP...That's sad.

A upper pulley and E85 conversion hellcat with a cat delete is pumping out 900+ Wheel and running high-mid 9s.

Still love Chevy, still love the ZL1, still plan on buying one, but I just wanted to discuss the above.

I think Chevy going to the Alpha platform and building a lighter, smaller, more nimble 6th gen shows their intentions of building more of a road warrior vs a pure drag strip car. Chevy is more than capable of building a pure straight line car like the Hellcat. They have used larger blowers in the past so its not like they are a stranger to it.

With all due respect to your point, you realize the ZL1 is faster than the Porsche GT3, MB AMG GT-S, and McLaren 570 at Willow Spring racetrack!!! (check motor trend on demand review of ZL1)

I mean seriously... the fact that it can hang with stock Hellcat at the drag strip and beat the GT350 at the track is icing on the cake... It would have been nice to have a more tunable platform but if that's what you're after then your're better off waiting for GT500, going with Hellcat, or starting with an SS or SS-1LE and tuning it to your taste.

At this point ZL1 is more sports car than traditional old-school muscle car...
