Oil Life Computer vs Oil amounts for Track use
If my oil life was changed about 3k miles ago and my Oil Life is currently reading 43 % , should I add any oil? if I have a heavy track weekend? will do all fluid swap after this weekend.

If you track your car regularly I'd change oil no later than 50% if not 75%.
IMHO. |

That's not really necessary though. This car takes into account your type of driving so your "percent" oil life will be subjective to your driving style. I.e if someone drove to the store and back they may stay about 50% oil life for a year, whereas someone who does 10 tracks day in a month may drop below 30% in just a few weeks. Modern oil technology is pretty great, no reason to overdo the oil changes.

Well I am an old dog and I see how much oil changes even after 2-3 track days. 5-6 track days for me is max for oil. But that's my $ and my peace of mind

I'm not quite sold on trusting the oil life monitor yet but that's just me. I have 3 autocrosses and 3 track days on my oil and it shows 84% life. It doesn't appear to have used a drop which is awesome, but I can't imagine that it has that much life left in it with the last two track days being in 90+ degree weather. I have a 2 day track event coming up at auto Club speedway in May and will likely change it after that regardless of what the monitor says.

I should clarify that I don't mean waiting until ~10%, but I don't think it's necessary to change the oil when the computer says 75%, or even 50%.

oil change is the simplest and cheapest insurance to maintain a healthy motor.
that's why one "uber" manufacturer ended up changing their recommended intervals a while ago (cause the motors were going boom). cost of an oil change, no matter how frequent is a drop in a bucket vs tires, gas, rotors, pads, etc. Hence i change it often because going "aggressive" aint going to save me much $ anyway. |
