Sorry, need a layman explanation of Torque Management...

I'm sure this is common knowledge for most, but I honestly am ignorant on the actual workings, pro's & cons of why GM has implemented it in the ZL1. Please understand this is my first real world hot rod & although I am & have always been an enthusiast, I don't recall ever hearing about this topic in the past. I assume it's another newish techno gadget I haven't kept up with??

I see so many posts on the TM being an issue of sorts for being able to get the most out of this car...I see it mostly when comparing the acceleration to the HC & getting to understand or control it as being some sort of hurdle of sorts to wring out her best.

Anyway, would appreciate some feedback...I originally thought having all the nannies turned off got rid of any & all issues of what the car can offer, but am beginning to wonder if TM is even tied to the nannies now.

Appreciate it...

Your car’s computer monitors many variables. Based on the design engineer’s algorithms, your car’s computer can (and does) reduce your accelerator input under certain conditions. Most often from initial takeoff (under heavy throttle) to reduce wheel spin.

This is done for safety reasons as well as reducing stress on drive train components. Some believe our ZL1’s are too aggressive in reducing power.Computer programmers can reduce (or eliminate) these reductions at the cost of a voided warranty in many cases.

That’s my short version anyway! I’m sure others can go into much more detail!

+1,

Also worth mentioning that Torque Management is built-in, "underneath" the driver mods, and Stabilitrak on/off. So it's "always on".

It's the thing that saves your ass when you a bad driver on the road or track. And it's the thing that slows you down if your a really good driver on the track.

Torque management also varies depending what mood you're in. If you are in track/race it all had the least amount of management which really is very little.

There seems to be a lot of potential settings with the traction control and torque management intertwined. My first track day (forgot the manual) I pushed the traction control button to turn it off and then put it in track mode. Looking at the manual it appears the torque management would have been at its highest setting? Was there still traction control? I know the one time I just put it in track mode there was a noticeable difference entering the first turn and I had to turn off traction control again.
