I bought my car from Vaughn Auto in Iowa. Did my home work and talked to the dealers in my area. At the there were no 50th edition 2SS in the area that under $55K. Yes even Chevy dealers play the mark up game. Considered ordering one and even got a quote but in the end I couldn't beat the deal from Vaughn and they had the car sitting there. Only problem is it was 300 miles away and I went to get it on a rainy crappy day.

Everything met my approval so I finalized the sale and drove away a happy man. Easy-peasy - all done in less than two days. So, OP there are all kinds of ways one can successfully get a car that sits in another state. Happy hunting!
That is exactly what I needed to hear! There are cars sitting on lots that are just manual's with NPP. Might not get the exact color, but I'm willing to compromise there if I can get the car at the price listed. And it's what I'm willing to pay.

I bought mine 400 miles away in another state. Negotiated price and terms over the phone. $99 one way ticket, salesman picked me up at the airport. Inspected and test drove at dealership. Signed papers and drove the car back. No muss no fuss. 3rd car I have bought out of state.

I bought mine over 1000 miles away, wanted specific color and options during the bonus tag sale last fall and couldn't find anything closer. My advise -don't compromise on color and options...keep looking till you find the right one.
One thing I learned that time after talking to multiple local dealers was that they only do swap if it's within certain miles like 150-200.

I second the above. I looked long and hard for a 50th SS M6 with sunroof and had plenty of dealers try to get me to compromise. Hold out for what you want..

I bought mine out of state also. I tried Becky, but the pricing I found was better. No troubles with the registration for me, they took care of it. Being an Oregon resident, there was zero sales tax even when I bought in another state.

I did it, picked up my Camaro last weekend in North Dakota. I wanted a Blue Velvet Metallic and there weren't many new ones left in the US. I ended up paying $28k for a $39k+ sticker car. One way ticket and hotel cost me about $250 total. Easiest car buying experience ever. I would absolutely do it again. If the car you want is out of state, try going to the dealer that has it directly and working with them. You'll probably be able to get a better deal.

I live in VA and bought my car in MD, I still paid sales tax where I live (which was cheaper so I was cool with that), but the dealer fees in MD were much cheaper so I saved a few hundred bucks and they had a better selection in inventory and you usually get a better deal grabbing something in their inventory, especially if it's been sitting there for a while. Dealer took care of tags, registration ect, I didn't have to do anything there.

Only thing extra I had to do was get the car inspected in VA once my new plates came in because the inspection sticker was from MD (where the dealership was) so I had to pay $16 for that.
