borla ATAK vs. gm perfomance exhaust

I don't have the NPP on my v6, and am looking for an upgrade. I like the sound from all the videos of the borla ATAK, and seem to be well liked overall. I am not sure if it voids the warranty, or perhaps just warranty related to exhaust?

My bigger question though is specifically if anyone knows the difference in sound compared to the gm performance exhaust... Isn't that also made by Borla? The one found here:

http://www.shopchevyparts.com/perfor...-92289358.html

Overall it seems I could get either for a similar price. Probably cheaper for the ATAK. Although since I wouldn't do the install myself, I'd be in a similar boat price wise.

I really enjoy the Borla ATAK sound. Here is where I got mine:

Send a pm to http://www.camaro6.com/forums/member.php?u=28371, they were able to give a discount on the price. Not sure what the shipping cost would be.

Here's a quick video I did.

Thanks - I was afraid you might say this! I've followed your install and part of my hesitance was because I think you mentioned it wasn't a huge change from stock. however some of the ATAK vids I saw on youtube seem to be quite a difference. But if it voids my warranty... hmmm....

I actually finally dialed this in, very happy with the sound. After eliminating the second cat, I get a very strong bark when I first start up then it calms down it's very quiet and no drone at highway speed, if you step on it it opens up wide and sounds very good. I'm very satisfied.

Seems like you have a good solution - although I'm thinking the ATAK may be better suited for my needs and won't need to mess around eliminating the second cat, which I am not sure would work for emissions here, etc. I am looking for something quite throaty, a deep rumble... just want it to sound powerful overall.

ATAK (from what I see, or what I can tell) shouldn't interfere with manufactures warranty. Anyone know otherwise?

I have a hard time believing that any dealer would refuse warr for mounting a borla. Guess all you have to do is ask your local dealer first. I do like the larger high quality tips on the borla/GM products, very nice.......

I went with the s-type. In any city, sounds bouncing of buildings, it can scare or atartle anyone when you get on it. Loid when accelerating, but no drone and decently mild when cruising. Doesnt annoy the neighbors on cold start up. And doesnt try to make the car seem more powerful than it is.

Yup, correct. Here is the PM I received a few months ago from Lisa @ Borla
Hi Glen,

Sorry for my delayed response. Thanks for reaching out!

The GM Performance by Borla systems are designed to GM's specifications. That said, the Borla systems tend to be slightly louder
.

So if I yanked the second cat, now it's probably equal to their S system. If I had it to do all over, and local dealer approved, I go straight to the S system.

Insofar as the Warranty is concerned, Glen offers good advice - simply contact your Dealer and inquire.

I went with the Borla S-Type myself, and my GM Dealer actually did the install. The Dealership was very impressed with the Borla......

How much would a typical install on this be? I'd probably have them do the install too. I'm guessing 150-200 based on the price to install the gm performance.

I may have to reframe my question to a type vs atak... Both seem perhaps worth it. I just would hate to get the s and regret not going atak. Is the atak just louder overall our are there other subtle differences in acceleration etc.

Should be able to have the muffler back removed and the new set installed for 125.00.

I just spent a bit watching the install video and it seems as though I could easily do this myself. Just roll the car up onto a couple blocks for a little clearance. a bit scary to make those cuts, but not too bad. Probably be about an hour of work tops, and even if it took 2 hours for some reason (getting bolts off, etc) it still be better than taking it to the dealer and waiting.

I also spent some time listening to the borla exhaust v6 video on youtube with nice headphones, and honestly the difference between the s type and atak isn't earth shattering. At least when I got back and forth from the cold start and revs. Seems night and day difference from stock though (both). I'd probably be happy with either of them.

Still undecided, but it will be one or the other I'm sure!
