M6: No lift shifting daily or track only.

So those that have mastered no lift shifting or like me still trying to perfect it. (It's so addicting).. I was curious if this was just too harsh on the drive train, clutch, synchro's , etc to use every time I do a WOT pull. If this was something more suited for just the track. The fact that this car even has NLS tells me it was built for it and honestly I have to say it feels like it shifts smoother doing NLS than the traditional lift shifting. Perhaps its no worse either way.

What are your thoughts?

B.

my 2 cents . the no lift is not a good track idea . on the track you would want to keep the car as composed as you can at all times . Id say (imo) its more of a drag stip type of performance gadget .

I have heard some people claim that the Camaro has NLS but I do not believe that it does. A NLS system will hold RPMs when you press the clutch in. I have tested it out and it does not seem to do that. What you can do however is shift it fast enough so that it doesn't matter which is what I understand as "power shifting".

I would probably not be power shifting on a regular basis lol

I think No Lift Shift is only built into the ZL1 .

I am pretty sure no one at the track is going flat out through a turn while shifting at all, all shifting and braking(except trail braking) is done in a straight line at the track.

you should be able to test if the car has no lift shift, my Miata has it as part of the tune and this is how I can test it in mine

1) pick a gear that will not cause a car to accelerate too quickly, for example 5th gear at 40mph
2) floor the gas pedal
3) press the clutch in
at this point the car should act similarly to the way it jumps off the rev limiter, except it will be at a much lower RPM. On a Camaro in 5th gear at 40mph you should be around 1300 rpm....if your rpm just shoots up as you press the clutch(and you are actually flooring the car) then you do not have NLS

I have read that the 4 cylinder guys have nls as well. I have not received my car from the factory yet. Just wondering if anyone knows if the V6 will have nls. Or is it just on the ZL1 beast's

Oh wow I didn't realize so many of you didn't know it had NLS. It most certainly does. Come on guys even the Chevy Cobolt SS, HHR, Caddy CTS-V, Buick Regal GS has it.

You have to be in Sport or Track mode. So if you ever tried it in Touring then that would explain why it didn't kick in. Just like in the Vettes you have to get the RPM's higher than 5600.

The best way for me to describe it. When I hit about 6k I keep the foot planted on the gas pedal and the moment I step on the clutch the RPM's do not shoot up to the Rev limiter. It just sorta stays right about where it was before the shift. The exhaust sounds different for a split second during shifts too because the PCM is cutting Spark.

NLS is currently set at 93% of full throttle in the ECM. If you have HPtuners, it can be adjusted.

NLS on the turbo 4 is fun! keeps the boost up so no turbo lag. I use it regularly. Not every shift obviously but if I am flooring it and over 5500RPM then it only makes sense to use it. At first it was awkward as my brain couldn't get my right foot to stay on the gas when shifting but now it's becoming second nature

That was my problem also to start with, now it's done easily whenever desired
