Does OnStar still function if there is no cell service?
My last GM vehicle was 20 years ago.

The OnStar transmitter (in the car) is much more powerful than your cell phone antenna. Have heard a lot of testimony from folks who couldn't get a signal on their cell they were able to reach OnStar. I think OnStar uses the Verizon network but I'm not 100% on that.

It is not about getting in touch with someone, let's say I do. OnStar says, "yes sir, we will get someone there first thing in the morning!". We are talking way in the Arkansas boonies or if it is Louisiana swamps (I grew up in LousyAna and know the quality of help in those parts), does not matter. People are sleeping and NO help will come, or maybe the kind of help no one wants.

Here in DFW, it is the same way. Even going to Austin or Houston, plenty of help if needed. Cell service is almost every mile, with some small exceptions down in valleys I have lost service.

The bad part is going to another state and to the "big unknown". I have gone a long way up in Arkansas mountains and there is nothing but a whole bunch of nothing.

But, I might look into a Sat-Phone for trips.

I am with you on having a spare tire, it's my DD as well. It took a week for Discount tires to get me the MPSS, couldn't image how long it would take to get one tire in a pinch.

Well, I made the phone call yesterday to Performance Spare. They won't have one that will work for a year. It is in R&D

Have a blow out at 70 and drive on it trying to stop, destroy the tire and see if it pumps that puppy back up.

Make sure you do not run tires with different outer diameter sizes on the rear, You will burn up your LSD.

Seriously? Goodyear Eagle blows at 70?
Maybe use the run flats like I had on the ZR1 I traded in on my ZL1
